I've had the opportunity to try SSRI's for a long time (for panic/anxiety disorder) but have been too nervous about using them because of the horror stories I've read here and other places on the net. Just reading the side effects would give me a panic attack! I've used ativan for a couple years now and it has been a lifesaver for me. But now I've developed some depression to go along with panic and anxiety, and I no longer do the fun things I used to do, so I have made the decision to try Celexa as it looks to have the least amount of side effects (until Lexapro is released anyhow).

This is day 2 and so far I have noticed a mixture of sleepy spells and insomnia. I'm starting off with only 5 mg each day for the first week. Believe it or not I actually felt like I was in a better mood today, for about 3 hours after taking the med.

What can I expect when I eventually stop taking Celexa? Withdrawal? Relapse?

Thanks!

Thank you for posting...

The sleepy spells and insomnia will go away when you develop a tolerance for the Celexa, as most people do.

Even if your depression will spontaneously end without medication, consider giving the Celexa a six-month try for the prevention of a threat to your emotional well-being.

The SSRI class of medications has been around for over 15 years now, and their side-effect profile is benign. If there were any terrible, widespread, and long-term effects from these medications, they would be removed from the market by the U.S. FDA.

Take care,
