Fantastic cocktail and a wellbutrin qu.

Posted by janejj on December 20, 2001, at 11:58:37

Hi,

Any wellbutrin users, how long does it take for it to kick in ? Is it faster than the SSRI's ? I'm feeling really good today! i think its just the prozac at the moment, so I'm looking forward to when the wellbutrin does its stuff !

I remember when i first visited my doctor about my depression, i was so unsure about taking anything ! He gave me effexor and it didn't really agree with me. So i asked for prozac, glad I did. Now I'm on 3 different drugs,
Prozac,
wellbutrin,
Ativan,
I no longer have any qualms about taking them ! Just feel lucky that these kind of drugs are avaliable.

Regards, a happy Jane!

Glad for you! (nm) » janejj

I echo sid's sentiments -- congratulations! It's always good to hear success stories.

As for the Wellbutrin, for me it kicked in right away, after the first dose. I think that's pretty standard. However, after a couple weeks the initial burst of motivation and energy subsided, but it still helped me keep my head above water.

Again, so glad to hear you're doing well,
-cindy

Glad to hear you're doing good!

My experience was very similar to Cindylou's. For me, when I 1st started taking wellbutrin it was like being on methamphetamine, very happy, very motivated, etc. That subsided (I was at 100mg's when I first started...wonder sometimes if the meth like feeling would come back if I went back down...doubt it, but anyway) but it has given way to a rather normal feeling most of the time. This is most evidenced by the fact that I am no longer addicted to food and can finally control hunger/carb cravings.

Hi:

Just curious what med combo you are on? I am taking 150mg Effexor XR, and 5mg of Zyprexa.
The Zyprexa seems to have a *bit* of help with the sexual problems Effexor was causing me (likely in it's effect on 5HT2 receptors??), but am looking to add another more stimulating a.d. for some of the fatigue and sexual problems, as well as weight gain caused over the years.

Anyhow...thanks!

Jay

Jay,

I'm only on two prescribed drugs, Wellbutrin 300mg's and Inderal 20mg's. The inderal I take every other day before bedtime, otherwise my sinuses interfere too much with my sleep. The purpose of the Inderal is slightly to help with occasional insomnia and night terrors, but more to help with one of my daytime nonprescribed meds, namely ephedrine 25mg 2x a day. The inderal helps prevent some of the usual tolerance to ephedrine's positive effects. I also take caffeine 100mg's 2x a day and a legal ghb like substance several times throughout the day for anxiety and tension. I also take a few other miscellaneous supplements, such as B-vitamins and an herbal AchE inhibitor, but that's pretty much it. The only other thing i'd like to add to the combo would be some modafinil/provigil in the mornings. I am terrible in the morning's, takes me a long time to get going. Only other thing I've thought of for this is cylert, the conventional ADD meds have too much of a tolerance for their wakefulness effects to be of much use to me.

By the way, I find Wellbutrin to increase sexual drive significantly (which is certainly a good thing for me). It has also allowed me to gain control over my appetite completely, as I believe I mentioned in that last post. For the 1st time in 2-3 yrs (incidentally that was fairly concurrent with the time my depression started), my mind has power over my stomach. I think you'll like it if weight gain and fatigue and sexual problems are your main sides from effexor.
