I haven't seen many posts about the old meds like Zoloft up here lately. I was just wondering what people's experiences on this med have been? Is there significant weight gain after being on it for a long time? Is there significant drowsiness associated with it? What about jitteriness, or mental fogginess?

My experience with Zoloft: I took one and started laughing uncontrollably and then crying and laughing and crying and laughing for hours. I felt horrible during this time. I never took Zoloft again.

Definitely sounded like a good decision for you to stop.

I took zoloft for 6 days and switched to remeron because zoloft gave me a feeling like i was itching underneath my skin. Couldnt make the feeling stop and it also made me hyper.

I have not tried anything else, but I have been on 50mg daily for about 5 months. I feel like it has given me a leg to stand on while I recover from the trauma that I've experienced in my life. I haven't had any weight gain, itchiness, etc. However, I have had signifigant loss of libido (boo!), a weird jaw tremor and (ahem) diahrea.

I believe Zoloft saved my life. I can feel the positive effects and can even tell when I have too much in my system. There have been virtually no side effects and I count my lucky stars.

Been on 50mg for a bit less than a year.
Side Effects
First 3 months - hair loss, loss of eating, major stomach aches, constant restless legs (the itchiness under skin)Continuing - loss of libido :(, headaches (esp. if I miss a tablet), occasional restless legs.
Benefits
Being able to live as a 'normal' person! I have gotten my life back in my control. Definately outweighs all of the above.

Zoloft was the first AD I took. It was like a miracle -- I was HAPPY for the first time in my life. Anxiety left, I was confident and secure. I don't take it any more though. The old loss of libido and sexual function. I take Celexa now, which doesn't seem quite as bad (although I am still very delayed in sexual function). However, I still think about going back on Zoloft b.c. nothing seemed to work quite so well as good old Z.

I was on zoloft for about 9 months.. It saved me from a severe depression. It did have significant side effects.. persistant loose bowels, tremor & mild memory loss...long term that did not resolve... there were many others short term..
It was a great help but just not the best med for me...
I tolerate effexor much better in the long run.
This is the end of the thread.
