ReVia for binge eating disorder

Posted by natg on December 8, 2000, at 9:22:31

Hello, everyone.
I'm posting this for my sister.
Anybody know if ReVia is helpful for binge eating?

Any comments appreciated.
Thanks,

Nat

I take Naltrexone (ReVia) to reduce alcohol cravings. It also has some mild AD effects as an augmenter. Do a search at the top of the page for Naltrexone. There have been a few threads here over the last year discussing it. I can't remember anybody mentioning its use for eating disorders.

Hi. I took Revia briefly for bulimia about 4 1/2 years ago. For me, the side effects were bad and I didn't see any benefits.

There is another drug which you may consider, although I don't have any personal experience with it: ondansetron. It is mostly used as an anti-nausea drug for chemotherapy patients; however, it has recently become known for success in both alcoholism and bulimia/binge eating disorder. With bulimia and binge eating, it seems to somehow help to reset the body's internal "feeling of fullness," and study participants report eating more normal meals.
