I think it's an interesting phenomenon, meeting someone in person you first got to know online. Would anyone who's done that feel comfortable posting something about their experience?

I met with a woman who I'd gotten to know online through an online support site for Asperger's syndrome. We met in a park in San Diego so we could see each other's kids. It was interesting because I had just met this person and yet I already had common links with her. But then, there are so many dimensions to a person that don't come across through letters or message boards that I couldn't really say I "knew" her well, even though we had chatted. I don't really see it as much different from having a letter writing relationship and then meeting the person. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes not.

There are others with whom I chat more frequently and would love to meet in person. I would personally rather press flesh than keys on a keyboard.

Hi Dr. Bob,

I also subscribe to a couple of prostate cancer survivor boards. I've had the pleasure of meeting one of the doctors who posts there periodically. He is also a prostate cancer survivor and posts as a patient.

Although he's from southern California and I live here in the 'wilds' of north Idaho, he does visit family here routinely. Because of his frequent visits with family, I've had the pleasure of meeting with him on several occasions.

It's really good to be able to talk with him. Because of that positive experience, I look forward to meeting some of the folks who post here - if they ever find themselves in my neck of the woods.

Thanks for all that you do.
Don

My experience was pretty odd. Come to think of it,
my entire life is oooooddd.

I'm on a sailing list. Had exchanged emails about
tuning my boat with a more experienced sailor who used
to have the same model boat.

Turns out he lives about 20 miles away & sails on
the same lake I do. We've sailed a few times & instead
of trying to tell me how to tune my boat, he was
able to show me.

If there's anyone from So.Calif. (San Diego County) who would like to get together and exchange hellos, I'd be willing to give it a try.
