Hi KAP,

I am 37 and recently diagnosed with ADD. It's hard to say which drug will work best for you. You just have to start trying them. I started with Adderall, and that made me very agitated. It works really well for some people though. Now I am on Ritalin; it gives me a nice boost, but I'm not sure how effective it is on for concentration. I think some people also take Dexedrine. I may ask my doctor about that one. Good luck.

I'm a 39 year old female with same, plus depression. I'm currently on Adderall which is working well but not as well as I had wished. Also Buspar for low level depression and anxiety.

Ritalin goes up fast and crashes hard, for me. Too many ups and downs.

Check out the posts, on this board and the most recently archived, on Provigil (modafinil). They are testing it for use in ADD patients. Supposedly, it boosts energy, focus and motivation. Sounds great but we'll see. I'm going to try it very soon and will report back.

Best to you.

Karen

KAP,
Yeah, Ritalin is as good a choice as any to start. If the medication doesn't agree with you, then you could compare Adderall and Dexdrine. Provigil is another choice, though pricey and kind of new. It's indicated for narcolepsy, but has the potential to work well with ADD.

I know it's weird, but somtimes ADD responds well to certain antidepressants. Desipramine, Wellbutrin, or Effexor are used for that purpose.

So there are plenty of choices. I wish there was a better way. But the best we can do is start trying them, comparing them, and stumble onto whatever agrees with your unique chemistry the best.
