Remeron-ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Posted by Phil on May 5, 2000, at 15:25:40

I knew I should have started at 7.5 but took 15 mg as a 1st dose last night.
Not that I care but I wonder if they missed me at work today?
Can you say somnolence?

Phil

Hey Phil: I left my doc's office yesterday with a Rx for Xanax and it did the exact same thing for me. I slept twelve straight hours and it's been years since I've been able to do that. Felt good--lucky for me I don't have a job to miss. Also, Cam if you read this, thanks for the advice about Xanax--it's a god send.

Phil,
My doctor told me that the more Remeron you take, the less tired it makes you. Worked that way for me, go figure....

Tina,
Glad the Xanax helped out :^)

I think my doc started me at 15 2 years ago (it's been so long ago I'm not sure anymore) BUT he warned me to start it on a weekend. I started on a Friday night. It wiped me out for a couple of days. Slept all day. Couldn't get out of bed. But that went away after awhile. 45 mg, however caused too much woosiness before bed. Glad I'm down to 15 again.

Phil,
Thanks for the laugh! lol.

You know, over the last couple years I've tried Remeron at every dose imaginable from 7.5mg on up to 60mg. My optimum dose is 7.5mg, even though that's just 1/2 the minimum dose. But of course, I don't use it as monotherapy. It is part of a cocktail.

If you're taking any other psychiatric medications, you may only need a low dose. If you are taking it as monotherapy, then just be aware that the kind of powerhorse sedation you've experienced does indeed diminish with continued use.

At what time did you dose it? I find one to two hours before bed is just right. That way I feel some of the carryover sedation when I wake, but it fades with the first coffee. If I take Remeron just before bed, it carries over into the next day big time. So I would suggest taking it in the window ranging from dinnertime to an hour or two before bed, but not as late as bedtime. The earlier in the evening you can take it, the less carryover-if any--into the next day. It does get better! :-)

Good idea, John, I'll give that a try. Wish I could drink multiple coffees, as you seem to do, but I take Wellbutrin, so sleep is sometimes a problem.-JB

JohnB, If you don't mind, what dose of Rem and Well. are you on. Does the combo work well for you?
If Remeron doesn't do the trick, I may add Wellbutrin. Need help with getting off cigs.

Thanks...Phil

Phil- My dosage; Rem=7.5mg, Well=300mg(200 morning, 100 late afternoon)
Just started the Rem 10 days ago, but so far it seems to be a good combo. For most people, Well is activating, as it was for me, I had to watch out for irritability and sleep problems (I dropped from 400 to 300 Well because of it). That's where the Rem comes in, for sleep it helps me. Almost too much (I was LOL at your post!) Also take Neurontin.
Well seems to be one of the drugs of choice for addictive behaviors; I don't smoke, but I was able to loose 15lbs of unwanted weight very fast, with no consious effort, right after it started kicking in. Hope this helps -JohnB

Q. What kind of sleep to you get with Remeron?
A. "Rem" sleep.

(sorry - couldn't resist)

Phil,
I've been on Remeron for more than 2 years. Started to augment with 100 mg Wellbutrin last June. Most recently the doses have been switched. Wellbutrin at 400 now, and Remeron down to 15 from 45 last year. I like this Wellbutrin better. I'm more edgy but I feel better. Haven't been at this high a dose for too long, so don't know what the longterm results will be. If Remeron doesn't do it, you might consider upping Well and lowering Rem.

Best,
Allison

I have read in this forum that Remeron sleepyness gets better with time, but when!!???????????

This shit is terrible!!!!!!! I can't study, I hate being drugged after taking the drug. And if I rise the dose it gets even worse. Writing this is costing me a lot of work. Combining it with cofee just causes me headache and even more irritation. It's been 2 months and nothing gets better, and all of the other meds cause me sexual disfunction. Im desperate!!!! I hate this drug so much!!!! I hate feeling drugged and it is affecting my studies and relations with people big time S.O.S.!!!!!!!!! Oh, I'm currently on 30, but I'm afraid of taking 45. I feel scared to death every time I'm going to take the pill. I hate this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHEN, WHEN, WHEN IS IT GOING TO GET BETTER?????????? tHIS IS TORTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might want to try the 45 if your pdoc recommends it. Remeron is less sedating at higher doses. Counterintuitive but true.

Of course in my case that just meant I slept 36 hours instead of 48, but still you might want to give it a try.

Talk to your pdoc ASAP about getting off of it. There are other alternatives. I made more stupid mistakes at work on Remeron than any other medication I have ever taken (antipsychotics included). I found the higher doses just made me more nervous/irritable with about the same level of fogginess. You probably are one of those people that are hyper-sensitive to antihistamines.

Rised the dose to 45 mg. and suddenly I'm Superman

Took a half a pill more today. Almost no sedation at all!!!

Here is what happened: took the dose, had a panick attack, scared everybody in the house, took a deep breath, realized that I was not going to die, took half a Rivotril for the anxiety, now I feel great. The only thing is that I'm feeling kind of psychopat and kinda like it!!!

I wonder if 37,5 would be the right dose, though.

Just a couple of questions, because my doc is kind of difficcult to contact:

1) Is Remeron related to antialergics like Decadron? Because it feels like it and since I began taking it my allergy dissappeared almost completely.

2) If it is, then is there a real relation between the drug and osteoporosis? Because there is a very serious history of osteoporosis in my family.

Nope. But Remeron is related to the TCA's which are related to the antihistamines. TCA's and Remeron
have some antihistamine action.

It is common with the TCA's and Remeron that lower doses sedate and higher doses do just the oppsite. Sometimes the difference is quite striking, but at any dose thay all ate very sedating at first.

Im on remeron 30 mg and know quite a bit about it.
These are the facts for 90 per cent of people out there, what is known and understood among professionals : paradoxically Remeron at high doses means reduction in sleepiness- period. The lower the dose the more slow and sleepy youre going to be, in short 15mg "should" put you out, into bed. Thats means 45mg and higher have significant reduction in sleepiness or tiredness, because the norapenphrine kicks in big time. One problem is that, I ,who was at first tired and sleepy on 30 mg , have after six months seen a increase in energy level, too much- causing me considerable anxiety. Thats why I wont up my remeron dose to 45mg.
