isolation as treatment: any experiences?

Posted by putih on February 19, 2000, at 5:38:19

Before I started the thread marihuana and antideprreant,
now my boyfried has been in forced hospitalisation, that is not the worsed part (may good?), but they have put himin isolation now, already for 3 days and i'm not allowed to see him and get hardly and info.
I wonder if this is good for him, alone, anxious and not allowed to see the person he trusts and loves? Is that helpfullfor him? What does isolation do to a persons mind? Does it realy help to quit down, the noise in ones head? Before he was taken away I spend 3 hours with him, he was quite and so happy I was with him, then a doctor came in and some other guys and he freaked out. How would a healthy person feel in such situation?
Has anyone any experiences? How can I get through to these people, they just bully me with "these are the rule" and "you don't need to know the details". "He needs rest and no stimulus of the outside world".
I hope someone can tell me this is good for him, or shall I fight to get him out?
Putih

Where are his parents? Does he have no family you can talk to? Since you are not married I cannot imagine that you have any rights to demanding his release.

No family here, he is originally not from the Netherlands, all his
family lives in his home country, far away,
but he has a Neth. nationality.
and as it seems I have no rights (neither does he, because our relationship is not
formalized. Thought this is old fashioned.
We are together for almost 5 years, spending every day together,
just because of finances and lack of houses, we are not living together, but still keep our own 2 (small) places.
Ok I stop complaining now, back to the question: is isolation a good treatment?

putih,I;ve have been in different hospitals (9) of them,& in isolation 2 times but for a couple of hours, intil i was calm to be around other people. If he is freaking out every time he see this people then something is wronge w/ him,Isolation is to make so that he doesn't hurt anyone or himself, intil they can calm him down.
When i was in one hospital there was a man that did the samething and was put in isolation for about a week,& when they found the wright meds to keep him from atacking the nurses they let him out w/ other people.
I was you the best in this troubling time and my prays go out to you both.

Putih, I agree with Kelly. They are probably keeping him in isolation for safety reasons, so he doesn't hurt anyone, until they can get him stabilized with medication. I hope the best for you. Keep us posted on the situation.

This is just a guess, but my hunch is there is a lot of weight in their statement, "...no stimulus from the outside world." Could it be they want to remove all outside influences so as to encourage self exploration, or something like that?
