Did anyone see the Rosie- Diane Sawyer talk?

Posted by judy1 on April 19, 2002, at 12:36:19

They should have put *TRIGGER*. How did anyone else respond (well who's been there). I landed up e-mailing my pdoc and therp that I'm taking some time off. Take care, Judy

I didn't watch all of it. I didn't think of it as a trigger because I didn't have that form of abuse. I thought Sawyer was sort of harping on her to give details which I thought was pretty crappy, and I'm glad Rosie stood firm.

I can imagine that it would be a shock for you, probably not expecting it, and boom. I'm sorry you were upset by it, dang.

Well called my therp, it was a shock- she suggested writing it down and burying the paper in a compost heap. Kinda liked that- Judy

She was abused as a kid (didn't say how and I agree with Shar I was glad she didn't go into details) and then talked about this e-mail thing she had going with a woman with DID who had a similar background. Every guy I know doesn't like Rosie, so I understand. Take care, Judy

It was interesting-if anyone has read Armistead Maupin`s "The Night Listener"-Rosie had a real life experince of that book. I don`t care much for Rosie`s show-I prefer Oprah (except when Dr. Phil is on, I avoid him at all costs) but I think it`s great that celebrities like Rosie and Oprah are increasing public awareness by speaking out about their own childhood abuse. ^^^^^^^^^^^^

You need celebrity status to do this?
The common, average, Joe or Josephine Schmuck can yell their brains out and nobody will listen?
Why did it take Rock Hudson's Dachu "look" to make people realize that there's this new "disease" out there, and that the hailed, Republican RAY-GUN Administration chose to ignore it, thus openly betraying the public trust?

Now I know why Elvis, another dead fart, shot out television sets. Garbage at your fingertips.

Shooting TV's and other stuff

I was just thinking of that, was that a movie (other than Elvis) where someone picked up a shotgun and shot the TV? And I guess the 'normal' people can't hear the average person so maybe it takes a celeb. Also MAJOR pissed Russell Crowe didn't get Oscar for Beautiful Mind, saw Denzel's performance last night and no comparison. Take care all- Judy

normal people can't afford air time

Lots of people DO hear the stories from "normal" people, but they are mostly local stories. A celeb sound 'bite' will resonate in the media for quite some time (esp with follow-ups, if any, and other celebs jumping on various and sundry bandwagond).

One isn't more valuable than the other, just better aired.

Judy,

If I owned a firearm and had any idea of how to use it, we would've lost a few TVs by now. Ask my Hubby. He's had to protect the tube more than once. It reminds me of a story my former psychologist told me. A chaplain's wife was complaining about her husband watching too much TV, so the psych suggested moving it to the garage. The garage was located a floor below their quarters and she accidentally dropped it down the stairs. The psych said that was the last advice he ever gave.
Hope you're still doing well. My hypomania crashed, but I think it's due to specific stressors, at least I hope that's the case. Does anyone ever measure cortisol levels?

Blessings and hugs to you and your little ones,

Chris A.

Hi Chris!
That was a really cute story, thanks for sharing it. I've never had cortisol levels checked, I guess I always assumed that was related to anxiety? and that's the last thing I'm feeling now. Sorry about your dip, I read Kay Jamison gave a talk about Teddy Roosevelt at DRADA and said how he was hypo, and gave us all these parks and protected species and read several books a week. I consider that really productive and is where I am now, although I would be shopping if hubby hadn't taken credit cards :-). I just feel wonderful, don't want anybody interfering with that and with a 12 week old sleeping 2-3 hours MAX at a time I need it. You take good care of yourself- Judy
