I was wondering if anyone has tried St. Johns Wort for mild depression?

I had excelent results for a couple months. It did poop-out for me and I had to keep increasing the doasge until it just would not work any more. (I have the same problem on the *real* ADs also) One thing for sure was that I experienced virtually no side effects while on it. It may be worth a shot for you... Wayne

There's plenty of stuff on the Web about it and a reasonably balanced review was published in the British Medical Journal about 18 months ago. Most studies suggest 900mg/day usually taken in 3 split doses. Main advantage seems to be tolerability rather than efficacy - if you have treatment resistant depression it may not work. KR, Nick

I tried SJW for a while last year, and I can
assure you that it's no placebo. It's true
that side-effects are less than with
conventional meds, but not totally absent.
A caution: it stays in your system a LONG
time--I took too much the first day (for me
only half a capsule, but that's just me) and
spent at least a week waiting for it to
level off! It's also not to be mixed casually
with other meds unless you really know what
you're doing...

SJW is a weak MAO inhibitor which seems to work well in minor depressions. There seems to be no "cheese" (an other) reactions. Beware of combinding SJW with other AD's.
