can't breath

Posted by Scarlet-Tears on October 11, 2006, at 5:38:11

choking, breathe stolen from my lungs,
as if I'm drowning in midair,
eyes filled with hysterical tears
this room suddenly...
looks massive now,
Was it always this big?
Spinning, colors, dizzy,
gasping for air, it's scarce
harder to breathe
my little body heaves, gasps
with the first cry of distress...
I feel something, engulfing,
approaching slowly, spreading,
around my throat, enclosing
but there is nothing there,
invisble phantoms closing in
with ghastly hands,
it hurts, I can't breathe
tightening, more, more
mama, mama, I cry,
I'm choking, choking
asphyxiating on ghostly thoughts,
take this veiled rope off my neck,
I try to speak, I only babble
saliva, tears, fierce gibberish,
my sweaty liittle palms
clenching on the bars,
stuck in my enclosed prison
colorful toys surround me,
laughing at my anguish,
mama, mama, I'm scared!
pulling on my shirt
around my neck
too tight, take it off
can't breath mama!
arms reach out to no one...
the phantom jeers, leers at me,
unbendable, unyielding,
lily-white paws
clenching at my throat...
my cries get louder, desperate,
footsteps echoing in halls
relief on its way, finally
mama your daughter calls:
cries, screams, in terror...
she's dying, so young, please,
don't let her go, hold her close,
she lifts my tiny body from my crib,
her arms are here, so comforting
holding me, softness engulfs me,
compassion in her eyes,
soothes her baby as only a mother can,
not an inkling
not a clue...
her baby had her first
anxiety attack

That is really very good (imho). I really like it. Realization slowly grows and grows until zap! panic attack hits you straight between the eyes.

Air-Starvation Anxiety

can't tell right now
which one is blocked
is it the right
or is it the left?
stuffy nose...
listed side effect -
which nostril will you let me have
so that i can carefully
draw the everlasting air
into my patient lungs

don't pull too hard
don't be too greedy
right nostril is cleared
for inhalation
gently now the cold air might
freeze the semi-liquid mucous
and shut down your access to air

blocked - double blocked
i can't breathe
raucous sudden gasping for
life sustaining air
which burns in my throat
am I hyper-ventilating
i'm sure i am
steady now
prolong the exhalation
to a count of five
do that ten times

in my upper nasal cavities
a change of state awaits
hard mucous softens
i swallow
mucous en route
via oesophagus
to be dissolved
and dissipated
in gastric juices

left nostril is cleared
repeat the process
breathe from your diaphragm
slowly and gently
keep the left nostril
open... if you breathe
carefully you will not feel
the blocked right nostril
or how anxious that makes you

and so it goes
me alone in my bed
with only my nostrils
for company
until I can no longer
bear it

485106
emergency doctor please
give us your number
and he will phone you back

hello... hello is that the doctor?
i can't breathe doctor
i can't breathe...
i think it is the side effect
of my new medication

You can breathe alright
You can talk to me
I can't hear you gasping for air
Its all in your mind
Go and make yourself a
Strong cup of tea
Then go back to bed
And get some sleep...

i followed the doctor's orders
i drank the tea
well it was Valerian Tea
and i went to bed
lulled by the accumulation
of six years in medical school
three years dissecting cadavers
and eleven years of general pracice.
