Trip to the ER (non-psych related)

Posted by no rose garden on July 20, 2013, at 15:23:39

i had really bad gas for 48 hrs. and then had severe abdominal pain for a couple hours last night to the point where any movement, no movement or even breathing was very painful.

I felt better for a bit while i was waiting in the ER for 4 hours, but felt a little worse again after i got up - mostly really shaky and SO cold! I wonder what's wrong with me

The most annoying part was waiting for 4.5 hours and only seeing the Dr. for a total of literally less than 5 minutes! I'm really not surprised about people dying in the waiting room of ERs

Do you have a regular doc you can call or emergency service for the practice. What did the ER doc say the diagnosis is? Phillipa

I always feel cold in hospitals. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe they keep it like a fridge to slow the spread of bacteria... Probably it just seems cold because (as a patient) you are typically sitting down / lying down rather than being physically active. I feel cold in libraries and the like too, typically, since the body tends to get still when one is studying. But then it probably helps preserve the books, too...

I hope you feel better soon.

Once in a while I get extreme chest pain. It makes me think I'm having a heart attack, but before I jump to conclusions I ask myself a few times.

First I ask myself if I'm having trouble breathing. If the answer is NO, it's very unlikely to be a heart attack, just gas pain.

Second I ask myself if I an feeling nauseous. Again if the answer is NO, I think it's very very unlikely to be a heart attack and is just gas pain.

Then I take a couple of gas relieving tablets to break up the gas bubbles in my digestive tract and wait.

If I burp and feel better after an hour or so I pretty much know for sure it was not a heart attack.

I know that you know it as gas pain for you so I'm guessing you were not fearful about your life?

I find the gas tablets work really well.

Well...i was nauseous and faint and shaky. But it was mostly the lower abdominal pain. I think i have ovarian cysts...i should dig up the order from my gyno. for an ultrasound :/ I think it's worse when i'm more depressed/anxious too...maybe something with all the hormones.

Hmmm...cysts make a lot of sense. I've read that the pain can be excruciating. I know you're not a wimp in the pain area so it must have been really bad for you to go the the ER.

I hope you feel better soon.

Extreme pain like that is an emergency though so you did the right thing in going to the ER. It's too bad they weren't able to help you.

I think that in many cases the ER is so busy that anything that is not immediately life threatening gets referred to a GP or something.

i've heard that alot, only the life and death situations are like priority....

when i went to JPS, the only i stayed in the psych wating room for 4 hours...just to get in and then the visit with the Public pdoc was only 10min....

its the public systems are the longest... ran by the state...its not that there doing it to make things worse, its just so many patients are overload for them....but do they have any private hospitals?
