congrats! that is terrific news! i never thought i'd say it, either, but i've been quit for over a year now, too. was fairly sure i'd die of it... or kill myself of it, more precisely.
do you still miss it?

Do you think it is important when you first started?
In my 30s or 40s I tried quite hard to smoke, but it was an uphill battle and except for the sharing thing and the marking of a break, I never could enjoy it. Or even get hooked.

i'm a smoker....i usally try not to smoke around non smokers because they can smell it, and have to use cheap colone in my pocket, the way i found to get ciggertte smoke off is wash the face and the arms after smoking, it works vary well because the smoke mainly gets on the face, and the arms when you smoke....do it all the time...and my skin is getting better because i wash it almost 7 times a day quick
lol
nicotine is good for when im bored....or stressed, it has a wierd effect but withdrawl from it is bad

I quit 16 years ago, but I still chew nicotine gum. I can't stop. My doctor tells me not to worry about it. Nicotine itself is addictive but fairly harmless. It's the smoke and additives in cigarettes that cause cancer and emphysema and COPD. So I hope this is all true. I've tried chewing regular gum but I really want that shot of nicotine. I'm not much of a coffee user at all.

Congratulations, Phil. I've only smoked cigarettes a little bit here and there, but that was more than six years ago, and I'm glad that I haven't picked up the habit again since then. Here's to hoping that the years ahead for you will also be cigarette free.

thats funny. i tried to get hooked on the gum but couldn't really get into it. it helped ease the craving while i was quitting but quitting the gum was easy. it gave me an upset stomach and horrible buggy eyed anxiety feeling.
i swears there is something else (chemically) addictive in cigarettes...

Excellent.
19 years, 3 months for me. Smoked 15 years.
Never touched one since 1994. I am an addict and if nicotine, etc., ever entered my bloodstream again...I am afraid of what might happen.
One of hardest but best things I ever did.

That is quite an achievement.
By the way, I really like your posting signature. I find it very useful.
How is the metformin treatment going? I once presented the idea to my doctor, but he was less than enthused about it. I have gained 50 pounds - probably because of Abilify.

Thanks Scott. As of this morning I've lost 24 pounds in just under two months. I was 50 pounds over too.

I did it with e cigs. I haven't missed it all. In 4 hours I stopped a 40 year 1.5-2 pack a day habit.
I'm glad you quit. I honestly had no desire to quit. Picked up an e cig and no more smoke, cough, wheezing, getting out of breath going up one flight of stairs and everything smelling like cr*p.

I was messing with cigs in my early teens. Stealing my moms and stepfathers.
Since 5 close family members died of smoking related cancer I'm not kidding myself but whatcha gonna do?

I think non-smokers still smell cigs. Maybe some don't.

Don Imus has chewed the gum about that long. I used e cigs and until the FDA proves that there are carcinogens in food flavoring they can kiss our *ss.
Our organization CASAA and thousands of vapers are going to have a good time real soon.

You are right. I think they are called Whole Tobacco Alkaloids, 4000 chemicals and hundreds of carcinogens.
Cigarettes are the perfect killing machines.

Good for you! I quit for a year once and on the 4th of July a friend gave me a cigar to help light those rockets. I was buying cigs the next day.

A doc certainly knows more than me but even my doc who I thought would shy away from it wrote me a script. There's too many studies back it up.
I hope yours will try it.

If smoking made me feel good I would do it all the time, but alas, it was a lot of work and no fun at all for me. Solely the sharing business and marking time and breaks.
This is the end of the thread.
