You hope for it.

I was wondering about hope for the aged.

I guess they offer them eternal life?

Around here there is no end of hope. Even the ads for prostitutes run 'Be loved into your grounded core. Deep masculine honouring.'

But we also have Sex and Consciousness workshops, presented by such as Jessica Galactic Butterfly.

You have this kind of stuff where you are?

But you are tired. And you work.

The future will be interesting for me.
I know what it is for consciousness to be bliss, but that has been the exception rather than the rule.
Dissolution could be like going home. You think?

I would think prostitution would be a manifestation of hopelessness, a corruption of what might be meaningful.

Dissolution? a return to the oceanic?

It sucks, and I hate my field on top of it.
Fighting to find a job you'll hate, that sucks. I'm looking elsewhere.

In Buddhism, isn't there something called intent? It's different than hope. The intent to change somehow however subtle the external (and internal) circumstance. It is difficult, I think because it is involved with working with present conditions. Which often suck. And I don't think it works like I'm setting my intent to get that white Lexus with the sun roof and gold rims. I think intent is more a crap shoot. Meaning contentment might come in an unexpected form.

I think nechi said something like hope only extends mans suffering but that is a very depressed sentiment. That is a kind of masocistic kind of hope. you don't have to use hope as a way to hurt more, it can be a decision not to add to your own surrering

I feel like I have episodes of hope, that end up crashing against the rocks.
A decision not to add to suffering?
I'm trying to understand that.

It's a quote from Nechi that I relate too

Hope hurts when life ends up a string of material, emotional and phyisical losses. It's that hope comes so easy for me. No matter what life brings it seems it all ends up in losses as I look behind me. My life has so much evidence of failure, that If I only saw failure in myself, it would be hard to argue this point with the facts and figures from what I see over my shoulder. I'm 48, even if I turn mylife around now, with life 2/3's gone by, I'd have to win a karmic lottery to finish life as a success.

I've choisen not to see myself as a failure regaurdless of my losses. I have more hope now then ever and I feel less in common with hope doing nothing but extending my surrering.

It's what my theripist has shown me in his RET therapy. I no longer weighed down by every failure in my life adding up to me becoming even more worthlees apon my next failure.

He was full of hope though. You do all this so you can create the workers paradise some time in the future.

>A revolutionary "must infiltrate all social formations including the police. He must exploit rich and influential people, subordinating them to himself. He must aggravate the >miseries of the common people, so as to exhaust their patience and incite them to rebel. And, finally, he must ally himself with the savage word of the violent criminal, the >only true revolutionary in Russia".[9]

And like most hope it is unfulfilled.

But how true, or should I say how does one interpret that? When is it true?

Sometimes hope is like an endorsement or an agreement to allow something better or different to take place. An agreement that yes this really is abysmal and we are now working with (non-secular if you will) positive faith...?

EM Cioran always makes me laugh, so I went looking for quotes from him about hope. I found

>We would not be interested in human beings if we did not have the hope of someday meeting someone worse off than ourselves.

>Everything is pathology, except for indifference.

I must get hold of 'Thinking against the Self" again. It was one of the most exhilarating essays I have read. I didn't know what to make of it.

From wiki........

Pessimism characterizes all of his works, which many critics trace back to events of his childhood (in 1935 his mother is reputed to have told him that if she had known he was going to be so unhappy she would have aborted him). However, Cioran's pessimism (in fact, his skepticism, even nihilism) remains both inexhaustible and, in its own particular manner, joyful; it is not the sort of pessimism which can be traced back to simple origins, single origins themselves being questionable. When Cioran's mother spoke to him of abortion, he confessed that it did not disturb him, but made an extraordinary impression which led to an insight about the nature of existence ("I'm simply an accident. Why take it all so seriously?" is what he later said in reference to the incident)[cite this quote].

Where is he from? Joyful pessimism is interesting. It's all up from there.
