Is it wrong to hate? Can it be justified?

Posted by Michael83 on April 15, 2007, at 20:03:53

I find myself with extreme love/hate feelings for people in general. Not even just for individuals, but for groups of people.

I may spot someone very quickly and have strong positive or negative feelings about them.

What I'm wondering, do you think it's wrong to hate? What if that hate is based on logic? If you think that person or persons is doing harm to others or negatively contributes to society?

I find myself having just uncontrollable hatred for certain groups of people in society (certain variations of underclass culture). I know there is good justification for hating them, as I know for a fact they are a negative drain on the world. But I don't know why my hatred is to strong and why it's so extreme. Most people have a "meh, live and let live" mentality. I just have an uncontrollable hatred.

Note: Don't worry, no one here on babble is the group of people I don't like. You all have been one of the groups I love. You give off such great energy and the world is lucky to have you all. NOT ONE OF YOU HAS GIVEN ME ANY BAD VIBES. I have a lot of love for people on here.

Color me idealistic, but I didn't know people still said that.

well......
I'd say consider what the characteristics of said people might mean to you
why are they so objectionable?
does it resonate with some experience of yours??

yeah, i was thinking just like sg.

it probably means something. if you feel you have some sort of strong reason behind your feelings, then there probably is a reason you feel that way dear. but, that doesn't make it fact.

i haven't a clue of what group, association, ect, ect, ect. i jsut hope you aren't talking about those poor cavemen. lord knows those guys are spending a ton on therapists already. and they seem quite evolved (they have girlfriends, dinner parties, roast duck with mango salsa).

i can't say i'm not guilty. just a few days ago, i accused lar of being a virgo (still muttering about virgos.......) perhaps instead of muttering about virgos, i should mutter about 'ex kk' and lar.

I was reading the answer the Dalai Lama gave to a question along the lines of 'You are in the room with Hitler. He is going to kill everyone. What do you do?'
and the Dalai Lama said
'I would shoot him in the legs, and if that didn't work, the head'.
I suspect he was having fun, but I think he meant it too.
No hate though(?)

Is it true that you need a permit to feed the homeless in some parts of the US?

That's what I read in the papers here.

Just to make sure everyone knows, I just "dislike" certain groups of people. I'm not in danger of actually hurting anyone, it's nothing like that. Just so everyone knows, I don't want people to think I'm some Columbine-like nut job.

I just don't like what I consider to be the "bad" people of the world.

I don't know how else to describe it. I was going to use the word "hillbilly" but I didn't want to offend anyone.

All my opinions of people are based on real life experiences. This is part of what frustrates me when people (not on here) tell me it's wrong to hate anyone.

It's wrong to hate a "bad" person? That's a bit silly.

You should probably know that I come from what could easily be considered a hillbilly background.

In any case...

Yes, it is wrong to hate I think. Under any circumstances.

Harboring hate in one's heart only hurts you and fosters it in others.

I try to seek to understand and not judge.

just so you aren't feeling ignored, i haven't a clue. i live in indiana (where pretty much everyone is about as close to homeless as homeless can be :) so, if you're interested in helping the needy, you can always send me some sand?

honestly though, when i've traveled (rarely), i've never heard of such things. i know they prefer you not feed birds in public. and i do know that in certain towns, they send homeless on their way with bus tickets to other states. one way, that is. suppose that's one way of fixing the problem of homeless close to home?

I've been told that feeings are FEELINGS.

They are neither right now wrong. It's what we DO with (or about) them that is right or wrong.

But feelings just ARE.

I read that in a Canadian paper also. I believe it was in one town, but they mentioned other places as well.

I didn't get the impression that it was all over the place but it's a pretty darned disturbing thought.

You have to have enough parking (at least here where I live in Florida where the homeless tents are legally slashed by the police) at a facility where homeless are fed.
Honest to god.
