But I imagine a wall somewhere near my upper chest, and imagine the nerve fibers sending pain signals up my nerves, but they hit the wall and bounce back, unnoticed by my brain.

It takes a lot of concentration, but it works.

So does relaxing the abdominal muscles, either through a relaxation exercise or a hot bath.

It'd probably work for you too :) (nm) » Phil

Try Aleve.

It blocks the body's production of prostaglandins.

And ALEVE is the nonprescription strength of the medicine in the prescription drug Anaprox -- the product prescribed by doctors more than any other to relieve menstrual pain.

And lay on the couch with the heating pad and eat boxes of chocolate bonbons, of course!

Excellent!! I shall take it immediately!! (nm) » crazy teresa

Funny, this just came up today in my house. My daughter takes 3x the amount of Aleve you're supposed to, and even that won't quiet down her cramps until about 6 hours later. Only birth control pills help, but she doesn't want to go back on them (she gains weight) just for that. (Getting divorced and definitely won't be sexually active any time soon) She didn't sleep at all last night because of cramps :-(

Too stubborn to try the heating pad - says it never worked when she tried it 6 years ago! But we have both been eating plenty of chocolate!

Yeah? Well...so what if I don't have cramps....for goodness sakes...it's chocolate!!

I can't remember the brand my Mom used to use. I think it's Marie Brizard.

Dinah, that is a cool idea, about the wall! I'll have to try it.

I often get horrible, nauseating cramps, and I find that a brisk walk or workout sometimes helps. The exercise seems to somehow get my body flowing and working and drives the pain away. I also take 2-3 Advils (the regular strength kind) and drink a lot of water, which helps. My sister used to need prescription pain meds b/c her cramps were so bad, at least for a few years in her 20's -- now it's not so bad for her.

I hope the suggestions help! :)
