Pink and yellow

Posted by Dinah on March 7, 2005, at 18:24:26

My therapist is strongly disapproving of my intention of removing all the non-pink and yellow items from my wardrobe except the ones I really like, and wearing mostly pink and yellow.

He thinks it will appear odd and embarass my family.

I don't see the big deal. I hardly ever get rid of clothes (rarely buy them either) and my closet is full of clothes that I have no fondness for, and just wear because they are there. And pink and yellow, especially lemon yellow and fuschia, make me feel cheerful.

It's not that odd for someone to wear mostly one color or another is it? One of my husband's relatives generally always has purple somewhere on her. She just likes it. Nancy Reagan wore red. Lots of people appear to prefer black, or black and white. So why not pink and yellow?

My husband just laughed and told me I'm my father's daughter. He's been helping me decide which clothes to return from my catalog orders. He doesn't seem upset.

I thought that you had to pay a colour consultant to work it out - you already know what colours suit you! I too wear only certain colours - is this being interpreted in you as an OCD thing? because I do alphabetize my spices, but only to make them easier to find...

My therapist thinks it's a sign of my schizotypal personality - quirkiness to the point of social impairment.

My husband thinks I'm just like my father. Who used to decide that from now on he'd eat nothing but peaches. Or that he was never going to eat at home again. Or that he was never going to eat out again. :) My father was into extremes. Maybe it is a bit of a salute to my dad. I can't believe how much I miss him.

Well... I have never been one to care what people think of the way I dress or whatever... So more power to you I suppose.

I personally am quite fond of black.
One of my friends says I like to 'absorb' all those good vibes that radiate off others.

Maybe I should come stand next to you? :-)

Do you plan on wearing both at the same time???

I reckon you should do what you want.
Your t seems to be the only one who has a problem with it.
I do the 'pick a favourite food and eat it for two months' thing too
:-)

> I personally am quite fond of black.
You should have been here yesterday when 5 of us within 20 desks were dressed top-to-toe in black :-) Kate's hubby apparently laughed when he'd done and hung all the clothes washing for the week - 1 load all black!

> One of my friends says I like to 'absorb' all those good vibes that radiate off others.

And what is wrong with that I ask????? :-)

Seriously though Dinah, sounds like it's the T who has the problem. So be like Nike and Just Do It.

you picked a very appropriate time of year what with Easter coming up and all. Seriously, i believe a person should wear what makes them feel good. I used to wear so much junk jewelry to first grade that my teacher asked my mother to restrict my jewelry wardrobe as the clinking and clanking was disrupting the class.

plus you could come in very handy as an accessory if i decide to go with pink and yellow in the guest room.

I wear maroon, and occasionally red or blue. But probably 50% of my wardrobe is maroon. I like it. It looks good on me.

Your wardrobe is not something your therapist should be choosing.

I am NEVER going to tell him the thing I'm never going to tell him. :)

Of course together! :) Pink and yellow aren't the same without each other.

You should give orange a whirl too :-)

Ok. So you are going to look positively radient. Someone that people in black should stand next to :-)

But it limits your shoe choices!

I skipped down to the Nordstrom rack after my meeting today and found a really cute pair of heels...and yes Dinah, they are pink! :)

but still...

I've got that covered. I've got hot pink keds and bright yellow keds, one pair with both, and even a pair of fuschia espadrilles for when I must dress up. Oh, and a pair of soft pink dressier keds type thingies. :)

And of course, as always, I buy two pairs.

I don't wear heels. I'm not happy when my feet aren't happy.

Funny you should say that. I have added a bit of orange. And I'm going to give sewing a whirl this summer, and have got some bright fabrics including orange.

I want to do some 60's type color block dresses while I'm at it. Only adding a bit of length (ugly knees). And I'm looking for a nice skirt with a kick pleat. I used to love those in my salad days, and I know they're beyond my sewing talents.

I want the overall tone to be vintage Barbie. Only, you know, not pretty.

Have I mentioned I'm quirky?

(I'm not sure anyone will want to stand next to me. lol.)

Do what makes you happy. I get static about my wardrobe too. Blue, black and grey. Why? Who knows. Maybe I'm boring. Whatever it is, it works for me. If pink and yellow work for you, buy clothes, dye your hair, paint your car. Picture your therapist in a pink and yellow flowered dress then titter like a school girl.

Thats what I would do.

May I suggest the addition of brown?

Because I have blonde hair and blue eyes, my best colors are light/pale blues, yellows, pinks, greens.. and I tend to "stick" to those.

I have a friend that only wears black ALL the time (and she's not even depressed.... YET! haha).

Hey, at least you are wearing clothes. Your doctor would be much more concerned if he saw you on the news running behind the reporter stark naked..

ROFL

Try it and then see if he'll stay off your back about your color choices.

lol. That should do it. » Spriggy

I'm going to tell him that I have official Babble authorization to pink and yellow away.

If I actually manage to sew this summer, I'll have to post some pictures of my colorful creations. :))

i only wear black.

but i'm well aware of the fact that people think i'm weird for it.

once a T told me that it was a reflection of my mood. I don't agree, since I wore plenty of black when i was high as a kite. but if it's true, then pink and yellow should put you in a good mood, right?
