Oh no no no...

Posted by alexandra_k on February 26, 2005, at 3:12:05

This can't be happening.

I have just realised what I have gone and done...

Student accomodation is typically for first years. Some second and third years. The occasional graduate. But typically first years.

Another flatmate moved in today. She greets me with 'aren't you XXXXX. You were my tutor'. Her friend turns around and yup, I tutored him as well.

There are going to be lots more of those
And possibly my other flatmates even.
I have a heavy first year tutoring workload this year.
One of them is popular as a general interest paper.

I can do the competant facade thingie at work.
But not at home too.
Not at home too.
I really don't think this is going to work.

Am I over-reacting?????

I might go and have a chat to the director on Monday...

I can see why you are concerned.
My home is my refuge.
You sound like you might like some privacy in your home.
I encourage you to talk someone who can help.
thinking of you.
:)

That's awful. It would be like sharing an appartment with someone who used to work for me and is still in the same company.

Everyone has a 'work face' and a 'home face.' I can't dream of what it would be like to have work people know my home face.

None of the work people (except the few I traveled with) had a clue I drank at all. No one knew how much.

And I'm not even adding illness to the equation.

I'm sure you can do it if you have to. But it would sure be difficult.....

Do you at least have your own bedroom?

Yeah, I get my own room.
Thanks for being understanding.
Worried I was overreacting...
That it shouldn't really bug me at all.
But yeah, I guess my mental health issues come out most at home...

Thanks Jai
And Thanks AuntieMel.

Whoa, no that's not good, not good at all. My body just did a huge shiver thing just thinking about it.

No, I definitley don't think you're overreacting. It'd creep me out severely. There's just no way you can keep your self looked up inside 24/7, you need a space where you can take of the masks and the costumes of the day and stop playing the roles they need you to play. If there's anything I can do ( and I mean anything) just shout okay.

i would definately speak to the director. seems like the situation would be some sort of 'conflict of interest' for the school to condone that. for you, not good.

Thanks guys :-)

Still, I have a perfect excuse to shy out of the 'I agree to be a fully participating member of the hostel community' clause on my contract ;-)

Now the issue is car alarms. Out of a grand total of 7 nights in the hostel 3 nights sleep have been disturbed with car alarms going off. I have enough difficulty sleeping without being woken by a car alarm at 3 in the morning.

Apparantly they do go off quite a lot. Affects everyone on my side of the building. Nobody turns them off, they just kind of peter out themselves after 20 minutes or so.

I went to have a whine and she said 'count yourself lucky that the pub on the other side of the carpark closes at 9.30 now. It was 3.30 last year. You can hear the music quite loudly. And the drunken rabble at closing time.

No way no way no way.
The burden is on student accomodation services to provide us with a reasonable living space. That frequency of car alarms (and indeed 3.30 pub closing) is UNREASONABLE in my not so humble opinion.

I thought the parking space was for hostel residents - but no. It is general parking space that may have been contracted out to the pub (I shall have to check).

This is reminding me of the campaigning I used to do at school for such things as being able to wear yellow laces in our doc martin school shoes, and being allowed to have our socks slouched and being allowed to have our shirts (of reasonable length) untucked. Hmm...

I am fond of a cause ever now and then...

Off to the student union I go...

;-)

Hmm, yes...

I am quite good at getting things changed. I will get on to the parking division first to find out whether the space has been contracted out to the pub. Even if it has it has to close at 9.30, though. They could lock the (newly installed) gate at 10.30 or 11.00... People could pay a key bond for a key which could be given on the provision that they don't have an alarm...

You can lock your car seperately from activating an alarm, right???

Oh, I can just imagine. Well good for you girl. I know in my own case case how much worse things get if I don't get enough sleep. So you fight for what you need to be 'healthy'.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I can lock my car with the key without activating the alarm. Yeah I'm sure the drivers side door lock activiates the central locking mechanism is the alarm is not in use.
