Anybody Watching American Dreams?

Posted by verne on October 20, 2004, at 12:24:03

This is the only tv series I watch. I've never seen the Sopranos, Sex in the City, ER, Law and Order, and any of the other popular series people talk about, but I tune into this silly thing.

I don't even like half the characters and I'm nauseated by nostalgia but I watch it just the same. Anyone else with this malady?

verne,
no, but when you switch to 'Gilmore Girls' we can talk.

Best thing about American Dreams is that Jess from Gilmore Girls is on it now. He's basically the same character.

I've seen bits and pieces of Gilmore Girls and the Backstage Special. I like it and would like to get caught up. I noticed it's playing more on the Family Channel - some marathon recently.

I get a little depressed watching people with "full" lives on tv. Life in the woods, mountains, or near water sounds good to me. I'm living in the midwest corn belt and have to make do with a birdbath and some high weeds they call trees around here.

MAD TV did a parody of Gilmore Girls - "is this funny or just fast?"

I suffer from the same malady. I agree that the characters are a bit hard to take at times. In spite of that, I kind of enjoyed it the first season, particularly the music. I think I came of age in the wrong era (disco, etc. - yuck!). There's a new series that seems like it might be good called "Jack and Bobby". It's on at the same time as American Dreams, so I think I will probably give up the nostalgia and annoying characters for the new series. Law and Order has always been one of my favorites. But, I've always been drawn to legal drama, particularly in my pleasure reading. I am trying not to watch too much tv, and I avoid reality tv shows like the plague.

verne,

that's funny you should mention the marathon as i just got hooked on 'gilmore' this year and i've been catching up on all the ones i missed with the marathon.

your weeds and birdbath sound like a sorry substitute for woods and a lake. perhaps you could invest in a cd with the sound of wind thru the pines?

the good thing about living in the midwest is the 'quality midwest grain fed beef' i always read on the packages at the grocery.

i missed the mad tv parody...hopefully i'll catch it next time as it is probably a hoot.

Somebody once wrote in a song..."I watch t.v., what do you want from me?"

I found in some of my deepest, darkest days, t.v. was something I could mindlessly focus on while going through a bad depression. Sometimes it would p*ss me off, but nothing like a good episode of the Trailer Park Boys to get me laughing again. The show is all about buying and growing dope (something us Canadians are getting a reputation for..lol), eating pepperoni, and setting up scams so they don't have to "work". (I dreamed when I was young I could find some great job, like being a Park Ranger or something, where I could just hummmm the day away!) Ohhh...whatever happened to those days??!

Jay,

TV does depress me. I see people doing things I'm not doing, which covers just about everything; living in places I want to live - anywhere but Iowa; and enjoying what they are doing.

Is pot legal in Canada now?

I keep moaning that I can't sleep. I forgot about my very effective sleeping pill. The TV. We have a featured movie every Sunday night, and if it is one we've seen we usually get a dvd. Well, for about a year now I haven't seen a single Sunday night movie. Within 5 minutes I have fallen asleep. Only thing is whatever I was watching creeps into my dreams making for some pretty bizzare scenarios and sleep talking (shouting) and muscle jerking and and and. My husband once picked me up and carried me to bed I was so vocal in my sleep.
