Why Do I Keep Listening To Sad Songs

Posted by Adagrace on October 12, 2004, at 10:46:11

Sand Songs Say So Much........ was that Elton John? Or Should I say Sir John. I can't seem to stop listening to them, along with love songs...

I bought a few new CD's this morning.

One song.....I listened to 6 times on the way to work. "Is It Raining At Your House?" by Brad Paisley, Mud on the Tires CD.

Trying to get thru this @##$%**$# internet affair I had and have been left so empty.

Rod Stewart has a lot of sad love songs on his Greatest Hits CD....listening to it now.

Husband make me sick to my stomach, and makes my head hurt. Leaves messages on my celly to tell me he loves me, but "what really is my problem anyway?" "You take things wrong" "What is your problem, I haven't done anything wrong" "I love You"

Therapist is a classic codger. Want's me to write down 4 things each day that I can be proud of myself for. Yesterday I got one.

1. Made it through therapy without bawling profusely.

Have one for today.

1. Found Cocoa Butter at Wally World, feels good on my red crackled burned skin.

Oh, here's another one

2. Singed hair is growing back, perhaps 2 millimeters noticed today.

Somehow these two don't really seem as if they are self esteem boosters.

Not supposed to think about what I want to do with my relationship with my husband. Supposed to think about how to build my self esteem back from "ground zero" to put it in the codger's words.

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH

Yeah....It's @#$#@$%$^%$%@ raining again today.

But I'll be careful not to hurt:
( ( ( (Adagrace) ) )
There is a song that makes me happy and sad at the same time - others have mentioned it here on lists of favourite songs, "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. I love the hopeful sentiments in the song, but cry at the knowledge that people don't show each other affection the way they could.

Do something extra nice for yourself today. Something frivolous.

hi gracie, :)

hope the day gets better for you. :) i hope you can work out whatever the issues are with your husband, or, if not, that you are able to figure out a gameplan to leave when the time is right and start a new life with someone who makes you happy..do you think the relationship is repairable? if so, do you have open communication with your husband so that you can discuss the issues bothering you? hope you don't find my questions and suggestions intrusive or obvious..:) i just thought i'd throw them out there in case they may be of help. sorry you're going through such heartache..i know it's intense now, but it won't last, i promise. hope you can find some things to soothe your pain and take your mind off things..

take care,:)

Sad songs seem to draw me to them. I'm more into indie and rock, but I love the classic tearjerkers too. Sometimes it's good to listen to sad songs tho - especially if you really want to cry, but can't - it usually tips the balence for me!.....then I put an uplifting tune on and get back to reality :)

I posted on the "man this song is depressing" thread about Sarah Brightman.

She performs What a Wonderful World on her Harem CD which is her latest CD. She is still touring the States at the moment.

She sings it quite differently to Louis but it is astoundingly beautiful. She gives it an ethereal quality. I almost played it at my wedding.
I sing her version quite well too.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon

The first time anyone refers to a book, movie, or music without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!

Hi Adagrace

I have every love song compilation CD imaginable. I have too often been told that my depression is caused by my music and that I should listen to positive stuff. Comments from the ignorant.

My ex husband pawned my Elton John and Rod Stewart CD's for his drug habit and so far I have only managed to replace Rod Stewart. Lovely CD.

I find my sad songs boost me, calm me and sooth me. If my mood is down then my sad music will help me to cry and cry and cry and sometimes a good cry is like chicken soup for the soul.

If I know that the music might affect me negatively, I don't listen to any.

Another favourite is "I wish it would rain down" by Phil Collins.

Your accident was quite recent. I'm surprised you're back at work already. Hope that it isn't physically demanding.

I sense that though you are sad, you're also very angry. There's a lot of anger in your post. Sad music is good for anger, don't you think?

Please take care and I am so happy that you are enjoying one of the greatest gifts on earth. Music!

Sometimes it seems as if every song is sad. Depends on my mood.
Right now, my mood is very very sad.
I like you, would like to become friends if that is possible.
It seems as if there aren't enough of those these days for me.
The Dr. said I could go back to work. So, I guess it's okay. I don't want to be here, but I have to.
Today I am really down because of things that happened yesterday.
I posted on the Relationship Board and explained.
Thank you for listening and caring.

Thank You,
But yesterday really stank.
Got sick at work.
I really appreciate the people here who have given me support. I know I am new, and pretty whiny right now, and I just hope I don't make other people low with my low feelings.
I guess maybe I share too much, but I don't know how to reach out anymore for help in the real world and here it seems to help.
Someday I hope I can give others encouragement.
For right now though, I guess I lean pretty heavily on others.

I have leaned heavily on this board many times. That's why I keep coming back - so I can give support when I'm able to. It really makes me feel better about myself.
Take care, and post often.
