What's your opinion on clumping cat litter (with sodium bentonite)? I use corn litter to be on the safe side but I'm probably worrying for nothing.

Thanks for your reply. I've been using IAMS Weight Control and Trader Joe's Holistic Feline. For some reason, my younger cat has stopped eating the IAMS, although she liked it until recently. I wonder whether there's any place where I can find the Science Diet at a lower cost.

Thanks for replying. Does the Kirkland brand really have the same nutritional analysis as the Science Diet? Are the ingredients the same? I will definitely check that out. I wonder whether Sam's Club carries Kirkland. I guess I really should try feeding them on the schedule that you use (breakfast and dinner only and in separate rooms). You are right about 9/11; however, last year, on August 14th, 2003, I got stuck in New York City for about 24 hours. That was the day of the huge blackout that affected the entire eastern seaboard and much of the midwest. I was unable to get home and spent the night on the floor of a building behind Grand Central Station. I was glad that I had left lots of food and water out for the kitties during that emergency. They could have managed without the food, but they definitely needed the water. It was very hot that day.

Thanks for your post. I think I need to be more disciplined since my cats are not. Your idea about measuring the food sounds good. I gather that your cat is an outdoor cat, so she's probably eating some other things outside, too, but she's also getting more exercise. Mine are indoors. Right now I'm living in a place where they could roam outdoors safely, but up until recently I lived on a busy street and I was afraid my cats wouldn't last long if I let them outdoors. Oh -- thanks for the information about meat being the #1 ingredient. I didn't know that.
By the way, I'm very glad to see that you're feeling better. I mean, it seems as if you're doing better than you were a few weeks ago.

It was very hot that day.The nutritional values were the same when I compared them a few years ago, even though the ingredients differed slightly. Kirkland is Costco's house brand, so Sam's Club wouldn't carry it.
You're right, they can go without food for a while, but not water. I bet they were happy to see you.

How are you doing? Thanks for the information on Natural Balance and for those links. I wish I could find a place that sells Science Diet at a discount. It seems that veterinarians charge the most, and pet stores aren't far behind. Hi Slinky. Hmmm. . . I'm relieved to hear that your cat likes mice; otherwise, I'd be concerned that something was wrong. Perhaps she doesn't like all the additives in store-bought cat food but prefers food in its natural state, as if she were living in the wild. Did you adopt her from a shelter? Was she a stray? I've known several people whose cats were strays, some feral, before my friends took them home, and it seems that those cats never become fully domesticated.

The cat that's turning her nose up at the food she used to eat is eating, but she won't eat the dry food that she's liked for several years (IAMS). I opened a can of food the other day, and she ate it, but she won't touch the IAMS dry weight control food now. It just occurred to me that they might have changed the formula. Maybe I should contact the company and ask.

I'm hanging in there. Thanks for asking.Read some of that info about cat food ingredients and you just might change your mind about Science Diet. I used to buy nothing but Science Diet and Iams until I read a few articles.
Then again, you hear stories like Ilene's and others who've had cats live a long time on Costco brand food... so who knows? Either way, I hope your kitty will like it! No food is of much use if he or she won't eat it.
I'll be looking for the post on the heatlh board.

Hi Larry. My cats love to drink water, and one of them likes the water very cold, with ice cubes if possible. She likes to play with the ice cubes. Sometimes the cats put their toys in the water dish and they use their paws to bop the toys around in the water.

I live in Texas. About 45 miles inland from the gulf.
My hubby has a three cat limit. We've got four. One of them was a rescued kitten I bottle fed. I like raising the abandoned newbies, and wish I could do more, but the chance doesn't come around often. Last litter I took care of was almost a year ago.
I've never heard of a cat getting mad cow. I'll check it out.

My cats won't touch IAMS. Some one gave me some once and they walked off in a huff. I get the science diet at PetSmart. Petco has it, too. If you have a pet store near you they might have it, too.

Maybe your cat and one of mine should get togteher. He likes dvery thing *but* the head. It's a real joy to wake up in the morning and step on one of them.
I won't get into which squirrel parts he leaves.

4 cats is quite a crew! Wish I could get more of them. There are so many who need homes. I just don't have the room or the money for them right now. Besides, one of mine is very jealous so it wouldn't work anyway.I read that cats can theoretically get mad cow disease (as opposed to dogs, who at this time can not). I've never actually heard of a single case. I just worry a lot. Don't mind me.

HiShe was from a house cat I think?
She will gobble prawns and thank me for them but I rarely give her them.
She has some dry food sometimes.
Oh and can eat cod..but only cooked.
She has expensive taste.
When desperate she eats canned but only licks off the jelly..I've tried non soya canned and she still looks at me in disgust.
Maybe I'll try stuff that the vets use online..wonder if they do samples:)

Maybe you should contact the company. Cats can be so finicky sometimes, maybe she just wants something new.

My cat loves cold water too. He prefers to drink it out of the tap. He won't drink out of a bowl at all, so I leave a glass of water next to his food bowl in case I forget to leave the faucet running.
I used to have a cat that would paw at his water bowl so that he could watch the water move. Cute, except for all the puddles!

I don't see the connection with catnip and toothpaste though. Catnip doesn't smell like mint to me but my sense of smell isn't the greatest. It does smell like oregano to me though and both of my cats love that as well.
