Wait til you hear this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I am posted on a major internet personals site, for the reasons of trying to find a romance to end my long bout with lonliness. In December I received a letter from a user of the site stating that they were interested in me. After conversing thru email several times with this person I found out she lived in Russia. So I asked her, if you are from Russia, why would you answer an ad from a man in America. She told me that men in Russia do not know how to treat women, blah blah blah. I kinda of bought it but was still suspicious, and figured I'd explore it since you never know where love will strike from. After several more letters she started to profess to me how great a person I was, and that she wishes she could be near me, and that there must be so many women that want to be with me (that use to be the case, but as some of you know, I have had the kiss of death lately, as far as women are concerned). It was actually nice to hear the compliments she was giving me, as I have not heard those type of compliments in a long time. She eventually asked me if I would like to meet her? That she loved me so much and wanted to be with me. I of course said yes I would like to meet you but I dont have any money to do this with, and I don't know when I will. The very next letter she said she had checked on arrangements and needed $693 to purchase the tickets and to send it Western Union so she could come meet me. ( the red flag is waiving large and loudly at this point)
So, I did a look up of her name on the internet for curiosity and it came up associated with a Russian internet scam artist site and her name was listed on it. I was mortified and shocked that I almost fell for this scam! My faith in humanity was serverly damaged and trust of people is now a little less than it was before. Its a good thing my finger was not on the button because Russia would be a cloud of atomic dust if it had.
So, I sent a letter back basically stating that I know their scam and that if I ever meet them face to face, I would show them a little American justice! Of course I did not get a reply back. I started reading all of these horror stories of men who got scammed out of thousands of dollars with this particular type of scam. I am just lucky that I have the intelligence to see thru it before I lost any money, not that I have any to give nowadays anyway. Now I have to post my story on these scam sites so that maybe this won't happen to someone else. I'm sure it will continue thou, because as you know, the quest for money is the true evil in the world. Pharmaceutical companies included.
So there you have it, one of your fellow babblers was taken advantage of, but he will survive to fight another day, wiser, stronger, and certaintly more aware.
Be careful out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leo! I am SO sorry you had to go through that! I heard of a similar scam where there was a Russian bride site- where you can go and meet a Russian lady and fall in love, and marry her so she can go to the States. Some of us thinks this is weird, but there are a lot of people who think of this as a way to find true love- liek you said, you never know when and how love will strike.

Well, the scam was that you wired money over there and arrangements were to be setup for you by them and they'd send you a ticket. The men who did it, never heard from the company again, and their website was taken offline.

Poor poor poor people who have to stoop so low- playing with emotions and pretending... but don't totally give up on humanity- humanity needs YOU!

You're wonderful, you know? You must have tons of women beating down your door to get to you. And if you don't, it's only because they can't find your house just yet. You're very witty and bright. And I'm sure you're handsome as well.

Don't give up. It stinks that happened. I'm sorry. Anytime you are looking for a compliment, drop a line my way. I've got plenty for you, OK?

Here's something to look forward to ... Do you like Ween?
How about "Mister, would you please help my pony"....

Mister, would you please help my pony?
He's over there behind the tree
He's down in the dirt, would ya help him?
I think it's his lung

Mister, would you please help my pony?
He's chewin bark and not the leaves
He's crying like a baby, would you help him
I think it's his lung

Mister, would you please help my pony?
He's down-He ain't gettin up
He coughed up snot in the driveway
And I think his lung's f* up

Mister, would you please help my pony?
He's over there lookin at me
He can't talk because he's a pony
I think it's his lung

*Now, with music like this, how could you be in a bad mood? :) Do you have a pony? I have a dog tht acts like a pony with children. I tried to saddle him today, and he didn't like it.... Hope you're in a better mood, cuz that song cheered me up... Did it you?

the first of several ween shows i attended was in '91. i hated them at first, and i didn't smoke, so i figured i just didn't get it; but their eclecticism definitely grew on me. i remember i had a crush on dean for awhile. he always played barefoot and had very nice feet. i stopped keeping up with them after chocolate & cheese, but i still have fond memories of that era.
