Wait til you hear this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by leo33 on February 17, 2004, at 14:14:38

Well, I am posted on a major internet personals site, for the reasons of trying to find a romance to end my long bout with lonliness. In December I received a letter from a user of the site stating that they were interested in me. After conversing thru email several times with this person I found out she lived in Russia. So I asked her, if you are from Russia, why would you answer an ad from a man in America. She told me that men in Russia do not know how to treat women, blah blah blah. I kinda of bought it but was still suspicious, and figured I'd explore it since you never know where love will strike from. After several more letters she started to profess to me how great a person I was, and that she wishes she could be near me, and that there must be so many women that want to be with me (that use to be the case, but as some of you know, I have had the kiss of death lately, as far as women are concerned). It was actually nice to hear the compliments she was giving me, as I have not heard those type of compliments in a long time. She eventually asked me if I would like to meet her? That she loved me so much and wanted to be with me. I of course said yes I would like to meet you but I dont have any money to do this with, and I don't know when I will. The very next letter she said she had checked on arrangements and needed $693 to purchase the tickets and to send it Western Union so she could come meet me. ( the red flag is waiving large and loudly at this point)
So, I did a look up of her name on the internet for curiosity and it came up associated with a Russian internet scam artist site and her name was listed on it. I was mortified and shocked that I almost fell for this scam! My faith in humanity was serverly damaged and trust of people is now a little less than it was before. Its a good thing my finger was not on the button because Russia would be a cloud of atomic dust if it had.
So, I sent a letter back basically stating that I know their scam and that if I ever meet them face to face, I would show them a little American justice! Of course I did not get a reply back. I started reading all of these horror stories of men who got scammed out of thousands of dollars with this particular type of scam. I am just lucky that I have the intelligence to see thru it before I lost any money, not that I have any to give nowadays anyway. Now I have to post my story on these scam sites so that maybe this won't happen to someone else. I'm sure it will continue thou, because as you know, the quest for money is the true evil in the world. Pharmaceutical companies included.
So there you have it, one of your fellow babblers was taken advantage of, but he will survive to fight another day, wiser, stronger, and certaintly more aware.
Be careful out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leo
