After almost a year without the dead weight I was carrying around I'm happy to have this new year's eve without my ex. I'm a bit wistful at the loss of how we used to spend new year's day however now I can create my own traditions and do as I please. It is quite freeing. It's taken me this long to finally see how much better off I am without this person in my life.
You too will reach that point. Keep going.
May your strength and resolve continue to grow in 2004.

Me too! I love the one where the people all get stuck in that donation bin. There's a ballerina and a clown (I don't like clowns) and some others and they all look like dolls... I love the bk and white episodes, but I'm not a fan of the newer ones.

Me neither!! My mother still pokes fun at me for it... Ick! Something about them is just wrong. They honestly scare me. Robots too, and dinosaurs (but I have a good reason for that)..

I went to a meditation (also pleasantly scented). Then I got stopped by a cop on the way home and given a warning for almost running a red light. It was a fine way to segue from a triumphant end to 2003. Why couldn't he have focused on all the GOOD things I did today instead of the ONE bad thing? Somebody ought to talk to these guys.

Finally! Someone else who doesn't like robots. But, are you scared of them, or do you just dislike them? My mother has a robot vacuum and I just about pooped my pants when I saw it. I'm not quite sure when the fear developed, but I'm in no hurry to get over it either. I don't come into contact with them on a daily basis or anything, so it doesn't have a huge impact on my life. Mainly when I watch them on movies, or when I see my mom use one to vacuum. Ick. And factories! I couldn't work in one again.
And the dinosaur thing came about because I was having a dream that a dinosaur was chasing me and my alarm clock went off at the same time. So, now I associate the sound of a dinosaur with the sound of an alarm clock. I still get spooked every morning when the alarm clock goes off. I usually wake up before the alarm now, but if I don't I start shaking. What a way to start the day!

Yeeehaaa!..lol. I went to a bar with a buddy a few nights ago, and I couldn't get *any* frozen drinks! So, I opted for my next fav, which was Bailey's on the rocks with cream-milk. Geezz...now I feel like going to the store and getting some cream, as I have Bailey's downstairs. :-)

I really don't like them. I have seen so many movies where they "come to life," that they just plain scare me now. I know that seems really childish, but oh well. I avoid the oldish B movies where the robots are evil.
I am really TERRIFIED of spiders. It is my most crippling phobia. My pdoc has tried to help me with it, but it just doesn't work. He suggested hynotism, but I said no. I'm not comfortable with that. One time I found one in my car, and I couldn't drive it again for 2 weeks. Ugh, it's awful.

<I had a terror of spiders most of my life. I did EMDR and I not longer have that terror....I can't believe it! I have had to deal with spiders since and I'm not terrified anymore.
I never thought that would go away.
Have you seen "Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King" yet? There is a really intense scene with a huge spirder...I know that would have sent me to the bathroom in the past. I just watched it in awe. I guess somethings can be changed.

Spiders. Ugh. I once saw a scanning electron microscope picture of one someone left lying around the lab. All I can say is EEEWWWWWWW. And ticks. ticks ticks ticks. Nasty horrible things. At least spiders eat bugs. WHAT do ticks do? WHY are they here? They are evil. They latch onto you. Like eight-legged mini-vampires. Like a bad houseguest. Like terrestrial lamprey fish. And they're damn tough to kill. Utterly freaks me out anytime I get one. And they always go for places you can't easily reach to yank them out. DEET's good, but it's no guarantee they won't getcha. Then there's bugs. Exoskeletons. Creep me out. Okay, I'm not up to phobia range with these things, but I hate 'em bad. Gimme a nice smooth garter snake any day. Or a nice hoppy frog or toad. Those are very cute. And they eat bugs. Does anything eat ticks?

But, my boyfriend worked a dig over the summer for a class and he ate a clove of garlic every morning before going to work outside. It worked too! He never got a single bug bite. He doesn't use Deet because it can be harmful. If you can stomach the clove of garlic it should work. I guess the caplets don't work like the actual clove. But even the mosquitos didn't touch him!! And he was outside for 10 hours digging in the hot sun (AND HE ENJOYED IT!!! go figure!)

So that's the secret. I've been bug bait my entire life. And I have had to do lots of field work. Your boyfriend is an archeologist maybe? I'm in the earth sciences. My last field site was crawling with ticks. (shudder)

During my undergrad summer field course we used Muskol (100% deet). We dabbed it gently on clothes and hats and the occasional body part. If I give birth to children with 3 eyes, I'll know what to blame. Nice to find a way to not use it.

His major was archeology or anthropology. Not sure which. I can't keep them straight. I'm not really interested in either topic much, so I don't need to know which is which. He graduated from Indiana University, which is a pretty good school. But, there really isn't much work in Indiana for the field.
I'm a telecommunications major. I guess it's a "hot major" right now (whodathunkit?) but again, not much work in Indiana!
So, after I graduate we are planning to work for a few years and haul it to California to "make it big!"
As for the garlic, my boyfriend's the biggest wimp I've ever seen! He used to hold his nose to eat the garlic. Just chew it fast and wash it down with orange juice. It really worked for him. I don't think the capsules work, or don't work as well, or he would have taken them. He whined every morning when he had to eat it.
He really liked the digging part too. Taking his lunch, getting caught in the rain, panning through the dirt. Yuck.. I'll stick with my trusty camera any day! I remember the stories he used to tell about his instructor though! The man used to pull the van over to pick up road kill! Seems he knew how to prepare road kill and on the last day they even had squirrel chili. Ick. Andy tried it. He said it wasn't that bad. And this is from a boy who won't eat a medium well steak, it has to be well done. I guess he thinks he's a cowboy now or something?? Or maybe the heat got to him? Possibly someone sprayed him with a Deet product? I have no clue.. He sure is strange sometimes but he buys me things so I'll keep him around for a while, if he continues to work :) (I AM JUST KIDDING YOU KNOW!!)

Don't you hate it when other people think you are being childish or even worse, doing it for attention. I guarantee I am NOT doing it for the attention. I am genuinely scared. Three weeks ago a BIG one ran across the loveseat in the living room. I am JUST now feeling a little more comfortable about sitting on it again. Ahh.

I wish I could do that. What is EMDR? Is it like Exposure Response Therapy? I can imagine sitting next to a spider or something. I'm getting uneasy just writing about it!

My friend knew I wasn't kidding. That's just how we are. We are horrible to one another. Once she wasn't completely in my car and I didn't know it and I ended up dragging her about half a block. She finally spoke up and all I could say was "Well next time hurry your slow a** up." That was my way of saying I'm sorry and she knew it. If she had tried to touch me to remove the horrible creature I would have freaked out and she knew it. And I'm quite certain I looked rather funny throwing such a huge fit in the middle of the park. I mean no one else knew what was wrong and all of the sudden I was just screaming and cursing and rolling on the ground. I'm sure it was rather fascinating to the viewer. I only wish I could see it on tape, (of course without the spider). I can't really blame her for laughing. I laugh at her when she falls down, so I suppose I'll let this one go. But, I must admit this was a terrifying situation.
What gets me is the fact that I can't step on teh blasted creatures. For some reason I think that they are able to climb through my shoe or something. I mean I know rationally that they can't. Yet, I still am unable to step on them. I can't smash them with books. I jsut have this fear that they can actually somehow not be smashed and be able to crawl through teh shoe or book. WHY?????? They shouldn't be able to live........
