Does anyone know about tattoos?

Posted by ~~tabitha~~ on September 3, 2002, at 3:35:35

The ones I've seen get all blurry and ugly after 10 years or so. Is that always the case?

If so, how come so many people get them?

I don't know anything about tatts.

To hazard a guess, though, I would say the change in a tatt is because of a change in the skin, whether it be wrinkles, because of gained/lost weight, or texture changes due to getting older.

"If so, how come so many people get them?"
Possibly because most people don't think about what they'll look like in 10yrs time, only what they look like now.

I have a small kitty tattoo on my ankle that I think is very cute...the colour has stayed perfect after 5 years...I have a another cat on my left upper back that is about 5 years old too..the colour has stayed very nice too. I guess it matters who does it...my husband's tattoo; which was done by a different guy, and about 6 years ago, is starting to fade. He needs to get it touched up, which isn't a big deal.

Who knows why we get them.....they HURT like hell when they are getting done...!!!!!! I cried both times!!!

Getting my navel pierced didn't hurt at all...but it can be a bitch if it gets infected! I do take very good care of it, but sometimes it can pull a bit when I'm doing pilates.....

I think it helps a lot if you go to a really good
artist. Are you thinking about getting one?

Hi Tabitha..I have two tats one of a peacock. The other one the ink red, orange ,and yellow ink came right out now there is only a black back outline left on this one 10 years old. The peacock one takes up about 10 inches on my left arm it is very faded (started after 2 years) and is almost black now . Originately it had about 15 different colours 19 years ago ,it was a beautiful work of art..now I can tell you 4 things I know sure : 1. The sun boils the ink under your skin and this causes the tattoo ink to blend. 2. The pigment of your skin makes a difference to some skins wont hold the ink very well pending the area where you get the tattoo. 3. If I got another one it will be a wedding band ..if I meet the right girl..I would definitely make sure they artist is using top of the line ink.. 4. Make sure !!!make sure you check out the artist Better Business Bureau Records, other coustomers ,check out the condition that he works under , health and safety issues(clean shop a must , no drugs ,beer or a blurry eyed artist, drop in on the shop a couple of times to have small talk with the artist you have chosen...Remember the tattoo is there for life and there is NO CURE for HEP "C"..thats all my wisdom..Hope it helps someone..talk soon Tabitha

I know nothing about tattoos. If my kids have one they sure as H... won't tell me.

I kept talking about all the stretch marks stretching everything out eventually. What I really don't care for is a beautiful bride in an absolutely gorgeous dress with one great big huge tattoo on her arm and in all her wedding pictures. I don't think the bride cares and I hope she doesn't wish she hadn't done it.

The tattoo era was something I missed while growing up.

I remember working at a hospital for 14 years---one night a man came in the e.r. and when the nurses had to remove the man's pants they discovered a tatoo on the man's "privates". It said "shorty." The nurses all had a great laugh until the man became "stimulated"----then, to their surprize, it said, "shorty's bar and grill, greenville, south carolina."

As a matter of fact, I can remember two. One man also had a tattoo on his privates that said, "love lifted me" and another man had tattoos on his nipples. One side said,"sweet milk" and the other said,"buttermilk." That,s all I i've got.

Was thinking about getting one on lower back to mark turning 40. A design of some sort. I'll just keep it in mind and see if the impulse grows or fades. Am pretty wimpy about pain.

It's probably the OCD in me, but I'm reluctant to do anything that the blook bank has on its list of disqualifications to give blood. I'd be terrified of Hepatitis C.

But that's cautious me. I told my husband that if I ever got my ears pierced it would have to be at a doctor's office. And I don't get manicures anymore.

Did you turn 40 yet? My 40th is in a month. I was thinking of doing the same. We have a LOT of reputable places here, and I was going to get a tiny praying mantis or poison dart frog. But I am afraid of Hep C.

Good Morning ..Tattoos can be an incredible piece of art work to wear ...I didn't mean to scare you about the Hep "C" . The reaseon why I mentioned it though in the last post was I know of a number of people that did contact hep "C"..My brother died from Aids at 38 from a blood transfusion after a car accident. It took 8 years to kill him
There are some good tat shops out there and are very credible..I know that these artist have to use clean needles..Maybe you can pay the extra money and have them use a brand new one out of a package ,but I would want to see them open it in front of me and even watch them sterilize the ink gun in front of me too...It sounds like alot but you'll only turn forty once ..Please if you do decide to have art work done on your back there are also things that you have to do after the tattoo is done, if you would like to know more I would be willing to give you some more information..Robin

Thanks. It wasn't your Hep C story that worried me, though. It was the stories of others--and of some of my students, who have written long research projects about tattooing.

I would get it on my hip or my calf, if I had it done. And don't worry; I am a big fan of tattoos. When I was a kid, The Illustrated Man was my favorite book, and I still think that they are kind of magic (though I'm sure not speaking of the green tattoos you get on a drunken dare that have some dopey girl's name on them or a picture of Popeye!).

I have four tattoos... each one has been well thought out and I spent alot of time each time planning the design and finding just the right one - never leave it till you get there and choose one from their books... theres loadsof internet sites out there with tat designs on!

I have always gone to very reputable artists (well, only 2 different ones!) which are on the list of reccomended places from our local hospital.

I also insist on seeing them open a new pack of needles (I've never been asked to pay extra) and check their premises look good.

Also, I make sure they use the most up to date inks (check these in tattoo mags), and have had them all done twice... go back after 6 - 8 weeks and have the tattoo gone over again to keep the colours strong and bold.

I have two on my right shoulder balde that barely hurt, (chinese characters) one on my lefy ankle (smallish black gecko)that was a bit uncomfortable, and a large on on my left lower back (large red gecko!) that hurt like hell and I never thought |I would get through!!!

I love my tats!!!

Nikki xx

ps - one thing I ahve done.. I got some paper that you can put through your printer and is a tempory tattoo.. I always try them out this way to be 100% sure on the positioning etc!

Wow, same impulse huh? My 40th is still a bit off -- not til April.

A praying mantis... hmm, are you trying to send a message to men? A poison dart frog... ditto.

I got my first tattoo on my 30th..(a siamese kitty the upper left of my back).....the second soon after...(siamese kitty on my ankle)...they both look like new...but hurt LIKE HELL when they were being done. Tattoo places are so clean now...the artists are just as afraid of disease!
I have my navel pierced too (inspires me to do my ab-work everyday!!!!!) The navel didn't hurt..but now I have to wear low-rise pants..which being a child of the 80s is kinda hard..heehee
