What's manageable; what's not

For me now

Manageable:
   •my deepest depression (with meds),
   •my craziest crazy thoughts (with ACT-type mindful acceptance – and avoiding Abilify!),
   •some of my resentments & fears (with CBT-type self-talk)

Not Manageable:
   •anhedonia
   •belief that I have nothing to look forward to, nothing good to live *for*
   •some of my fears, intermittently

Listing what's manageable, and what's not seems like a great idea to me. If you don't mind, I'm going to try that myself. It'll take me a while, though, to come up with my own list. But it's a great idea...

It's great to read what you're able to manage (and how). It's a good list. I hope you're proud of it.

Then, I'm sad to see what is still unmanageable. Especially the feeling of having nothing to live for. That's a biggie. It makes me sad especially because I'm always glad to see you posting, and I like your posts so much. I always feel a type of affinity to you. I want to see you enjoying life more than it sounds like you are able to right now. I hope you find some way to move that to your manageable list.

Hi Pseudoname,

Your manageable and not manageable lists have three items each. Maybe you can try to think of it as the manageable cancels out the not manageable?

Manageable: *some of my resentments & fears (with CBT-type self-talk)* helps cancel out *some of my fears, intermittently.*

It's a start. I don't have the courage right now to do a list as the not manageable would be way too long. Starting with convincing myself that working fulltime and taking two classes where I'm getting high Bs is good work. Right now school would be on the not manageable list because I'm not getting the As I want. Bs are failure to me. I know, I'm nuts.

Any, great lists. Great idea.

The frame of reference is so important.

If *I* were working even part-time or going to school (for something career-oriented), *I* would consider myself to be a major success — compared to how things are now.

If I try to imagine, for comparison, how things could be worse for me now …  …  … I don't get very far.

I consider YOU a success, anyway.

As far as Manageables cancelling out Not-Manageables, the Manageables are still bad things. They still weigh me down and close doors, it's just that I can live with them enough to have satisfactory life-experiences despite their enduring presence. On the other hand, if I could get some real POSITIVES to offset the Not-Manageables, *that* might be a helpful counterbalance.

You've given me an idea, Poet. Thanks.
