Binaural meditation aids

Posted by FredPotter on June 7, 2006, at 16:23:40

Has anyone tried any of the meditation aids where one pitch sounds in one ear (through stereo headphones) and another pitch 10 cycles lower (or higher?) sounds in the other. It's supposed to induce alpha, theta, delta brain waves, inter-hemispheric neuron connection, cure depression and in-growing toe nails. I'm trying to keep an open mind while I try it.

DEPRESSION INGROWN TOENAILS??????

What makes me suspicious is that I really don't see a link between DEPRESSION & INGROWN TOENAILS! How is that supposed to work? What's the thought behind it? Does depression cause ingrown toenails or vice versa?

Good luck!

Yep, I've tried them. the meditation ones by Centrepointe - they make me VERY depressed - and they are really expensive - I regret spending the $. Some of the ones by The Monroe Institute are really good. One called Season's on Robert's Mountain...or something like that is awesome when I'm doing my artwork....I get totally immersed and lose track of time. Our son was prescribed some by EASe for ADD - but he wouldn't use them - so it was a waste of a LOT of money! They have to be Rx'd by a licensed practitioner. I don't know about Sonoma never tried them. The only ones I would buy are the ones from Monroe - but that's just me.....and they have some really WEIRD looking stuff too - I stay away from that.

I decided that Centrepointe was too expensive. It's interesting to note it's adverse affect on you, as Centrepointe told me there were no adverse effects - ever. I've been using one called Insight. The 1st track supposedly takes you into alpha waves, then theta and delta. The 2nd goes from that into deep delta and the last one goes on into low delta and then comes back up. My problem is I generally fall asleep during the 1st and so play the other 2 as well, which I'm not supposed to do until I'm more experienced. I woke up in a state of sleep paralysis yesterday as a result. Not nice. I suppose I was stuck in low delta or something. However I'm not convinced we can hear much when we're asleep and it's difficult to know how we can experience delta waves WITHOUT being asleep. Thanks for your response
Fred
