Blogging About Therapy?

Posted by Veracity on May 10, 2006, at 22:39:22

A woman I know on-line (not from here) has a blog where she writes primarily on her work in therapy. She blogs about her sessions, her work outside of therapy, her goals, and how she experiences her life changing. It is a private blog, in that she doesn't advertise or promote it publically, and only her therapist and a select other few people have the URL to access it. Her therapist does read her blog frequently and they use it to enhance their work in therapy.

Have any of you heard of this? What are your thoughts on it? Do you blog? If so, does your therapist know about your blog? Does s/he read it that you know of?

I know people post things that are really personal on-line.....well I've posted things I"ve felt were really personal and revealing on babble. But, as far as my innermost thoughts and feelings, the deepest most honest, hardest things....I wouldn't post them online. I guess I think it's a goal to be able to express them to my T, but I just couldn't put it all out there for anyone to happen onto. I know that's just me - I tend to be very closed. I'm more honest here because it seems a lot of people go through similar things, and have similar feelings. Also, if it weren't for babble, I'd never be able to express the feelings I've expressed in therapy - I wouldn't know it's okay to actually put those things into words.

I blog but not about therapy. I wouldn't want my therapist to read it because it would just seem weird like we were having a relationship outside of therapy.

But if it were a private blog for therapy purposes and she had access to it, I guess it would be sort of like online therapy or taking a journal into session.

There is so much self disclosure online about therapy and mental health issues I'm actually surprised that there isn't a reality show on cable tv by now with people in therapy. Everything else is on there. It would have all the elements of great drama.

Babble seems more private than a blog. I have to remind myself that it isn't. I try not to disclose information I don't want to make public to the world not just to Babblers. I have learned a lot here too from the disclosures of others about therapy. I take that vocabulary and expectations into my real life therapy.

I blog about therapy sometimes. I bring my blogs into sessions sometimes but I don' think he reads it outside of sessions. It has been helpful in the past. I haven't done it much lately, I am able to communicate him more directly. I guess that is good?
