No, but my supervisor occasionally reeks of yucky old man's cologne.

Phew!

Ugh. That'd be a therapy-killer for me.

Perfumes and colognes make me feel a bit sick. Or more than a bit sick, depending on the scent.

The old office that my T was in did. It smelled like flowers. I was always so nervous when I went in there with her, that when I smelt it at church from some flower I almost freaked out... it took me forever to calm down

hmm.

i wonder if they aim for odour neutral on purpose...

they reckon odours...

are processed by a fairly primitive / low level part of your brain

so that people often have intense emotional responses to smells

and can only sometimes work out the association.

i don't remember any smells...

except of course sterile smells of a hospital interview room...

(gee i wonder why i was feeling a bit uptight)

I have to tell you that I burst out laughing when I read this subject line -- woke up my husband. :)

In the tree house office one of the therapists burns incense. She is down the hall but you can smell it coming up the stairs. Once I'm in his office I don't notice it anymore.

The other office is in a large building which includes a place that does massage therapy and facials, etc. There are kind of tropical coconut/citrus smells around that actually are very nice. Again, once I'm in his office, I don't notice it anymore.

My therapist used to have a plug in air freshener in his waiting room. I can't identify what the scent was, but it calmed me when I walked into the room. Then his officemates talked him into repainting the waiting room (used to be a soft peach color) light green/darkgrey-green. Not so optimistic feeling anymore, and the scent has gone. I miss it.

Yeah, although I can't name it -some light cologne scent, where I used to see him I noticed it more. I find it kind of comforting.

Hmm, now I think about it....not the office, but he sorta does when I pass by him...not cologne, but nice, like maybe clean clothes, dryer sheet fresh mixed with something....oh, I can't place the other scent....but it's a good thing.

Like he'd have a nice smell to his shirt if you hugged him. Unlikely to ever happen, but a comforting thought I lean on sometimes.

lol...maybe next time, as I'm leaving, I should say, "hey, stand still for a minute while I inhale you, so I can identify your exact scent mixture for my Babble friends!"

Wow, that image brought a huge smile to my face. I can imagine that smell and yes, it would be very comforting! :)

How my T smells to me » happyflower

This is an interesting question, and one I've given a lot of thought to.

Let me preface this by admitting I have a very delicate sense of smell. I smell things that only other good smellers can smell. And I depend on my sense of smell more than most, I think. I cook by it, won't stay in a restaurant that doesn't smell good, (and it has happened that I've been with other people who simply can not smell that there is a bad smell, but I can) and I am very aware of how people smell.

I can be standing in line at the grocery store and a man will stand behind me, and I will be overcome with the smell of him - not a perfume, but the smell of the man himself. It can makes me weak in the knees. It's so strange to see the men who affect me this way. Not always men I would choose, but my genes obviously think they're pretty sexy.

At first, I often found that my T smelled bad. I never told him and never will, but he smelled bad. Sometimes he smelled like whatever he'd been eating, and he still eats raw garlic when he is trying to fight a cold or flu. Other times he just smelled bad, not like body odour, or a bad cologne, but he just simply smelled bad to me.

Then I went through a phase where I couldn't smell him at all. It was as if my nose turned off. Not to something so strong as garlic, but to any more intimate smell. The bad smell was gone, replaced by nothingness.

Now, he smells like a person; clean and nice. But I have wanted to get close enough to inhale him, close enough to smell who he is.

And I can smell the person who's been there before me, usually the same person, but on occasion, someone else. I astonished him one day by saying that there'd been a different than usual person before me. And then for a very long time the person before me has been a guy who smokes, and I always open a window. I love the smell of second hand smoke but abhorr the smell of a smoker.

The saga of ShortE's nose.

If she's seen somebody who has a cold, she puts on peppermint oil. I know, last time I had a cough, she asked me if I wanted to put some on and I dumped on too much. It was me who smelled like a giant stick of gum or a candycane.

Otherwise no other smells, just peppermint to ward of germs when needed.

LOL nope, my T doesn't smell.

Seriously though... Occasionally I will smell food since her office is in her home and I go right after dinner. Aside from that, neither she, nor her office has a smell of any type. Well, sometimes I smell the person before me (if we are being seen back to back). Sometimes I wonder, does she just not like perfume, or is that just another part of that dang blank slate.

Me, I like smells. (Good ones, of course!) I always wear perfume and always have candles burning at home. I even have candles and other smelly stuff in my office at work.

Teehee now I almost feel like asking her about perfume. I guess it is possible that it is just another aspect of the blank slate; unless she is being considerate to clients who may have allergies or something. I dunno... but I am curious if she ever wears it.

Oh, I'm just nervous babbling tonight.
