Matt, how do want this list to read instead?
So if there is Fear of mental deterioration, would you like to see Confidence of mental recovery? This looks like a "NEGATIVE" list that need a "POSITIVE" list to balance it out.
Do you think you could go through your list and give each item the positive thing that you want instead? It would be an exercise that would help you see that you can see that for every fear we have there can be a positive statement of the opposite of that fear?
I'd like to see such a list from you. Are you able to do it, or would you like some help?

hi Matt,
That is a big, scary list. But those things haven't happened so far. I don't think they will happen to you in the future, either! It sounds like you are doing the right things to stay in control of yourself and your health. What are some of the things that bring you peace, joy, happiness, relief? I'd like to hear about that stuff, too!

hi matt,
I think it's good to list out the fears. If you name them, you can work on them. If you name them, it's the first step to conquering them. I think that if you pretend the fears don't exist, and try to keep them hidden in the back of the mind, it makes it worse! So I have to commend you for taking the step of facing your fears head-on! :)
It's a big list of stuff but lots of seems inter-related in a way...lots there about losing control. Is this something you could work on with a T, a counselor, or even a priest ( a safe one) if you're religious?
take care!

> Oh, Jen, sweetie: What a list!
I read somewhere (not that this will help), that MOST of the things you worry about, never happen.
i grew up with a mother who worried every day, about every THING.. I made a choice to NEVER worry about anything I couldn't do anything about, or had no control over.
That takes care of MOST of everything in life. We can't know from 1 second to the next what will happen.
Are there LOGICAL reasons for any of your fears? Have you ever discussed those with a T? Of course, fears can be IL-ogical; those are pretty difficult to get rid of!
I really only had ONE fear; that of being alone, (abandoned by every man in my life; beginning with never knowing my father) and guess what!
IT is here! Divorced after 31 years of abuse, not to mention the loss of my church (of 31 years); voted out of membership, ya know .
Alone.
Since I cannot do anything about it, I just cope the best I can. Fortuntely I am resilient (good thing, or I might be drooling in a corner somewhere).
I feel so sad that there are so many things you are fearful of.
I say this (i know you probably realize this; and I have always thought of myself as the poster-child for sensitivity
(actually, it is called "hyper-sensitivity" from being abused)
I cannot bear it, if I though I hurt someone's feelings.
but, what a waste of your beautiful life, to worry (it only can make you crazy, LOL)..please forgive me, if I have offended you, and I am sure you know all of this.
My mother STILL worries about everything and she is 83; practically NOTHING she ever worried about; happened!
Since I am a believer; I keep these thoughts in my head: "I will never leave you or forsake you" / "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world"
Sometimes, that's all that keeps me going, sweetie.
P.S. I lied (LOL), your number 19 is on my list!
Hugs and love to you, dear new friend. I am coming right over and taking you out to dinner (drinks?), and we will talk this over!
The born (thank God) optimist!

> Thats it, thats what i think and worry about. I >sit and go into a mind set, hthen panic inside.Matt, i must agree with the others, 1)you are looking your fears straight on by putting them in a list, that lessens their hold on you and 2)you should make a positive list also.
but wanted to mention to you it seems there is one very common thread throughout all these fears of yours and that is the loss of control in one way or another.
i think things in your life must be like a whirlwind that "seems" to be taking over, maybe you feel out of control of your body or it's actions (chemically) and it's manifesting it in all these other ways. you work yourself into a frenzy about all the negative. i read once that if someone is REALLY aggitated or angry or panicky the best way to calm them down or soothe them is to grab a piece of paper and a pen/pencil and draw the number 8 without picking up the pencil. 8, over and over and over. give it a try.be assured that you are NOT out of control. YOU decide what medication to take or not take, you decide if you loose control physically (non of us have total control over our thoughts and that's ok. they're just thoughts- good and bad, it's what energizes us, what makes us creative and gives us each our own personalities. it's when you cross the line to act on those negative thoughts that isn't good)
and feel relieved inside that everyday they are working on new and better medication. and as long as you worry about your sanity be happy cuz that means you are sane. (just don't let it take over all your thoughts).
as for losing god, you must choose to do that. and just remember God never looses you. even if worse case scenario happens, you become psychotic and forget or reject god, technically you are not capable(in a state of mind) of truly rejecting or accepting god. and God will take over.
there is a place in his arms for EVERYONE.peace to you matt.

B2, that was beautiful. The God stuff was so cool. Anyhow, I didn't quite get what you meant with the paper and pencil and the number 8 thing? Could you please try to explain more. Thanks.

> Muffledsure muffled.
i can't use the font to show what i mean cuz the 8's here will be separate. but make an 8 in one piece (somepeople make their 8 like two 0's on top of each other, don't do that) make it cursive and just make 8's over and over without picking up the pencil, it actually ends up not really looking like 8's but some sort of connected s's.
anyway, i guess because the action is repetative and uses gentle curves, it's said that no matter how aggitated, if you can do this it will calm you down.give it a try.

THank you EVERYONE FOR POSTING.
I thought no one posted to this. All the suggestions, thanks, clearskies, all those partly cloudy clouds just past by. I thought about that in the car today, a postive list.
1. Mental Growth
2. Absolute Sannity
3. Growing
4. Planning my mind.I've got a list to go down.
Jen,

> 1. Mental GrowthThis is on my To Do list, too, Matt! If I don't move forward, entropy will take care of my mind in no time at all. For me it is expansion, the hope that my mind does not narrow as I grow older :-)
Can you tell I just spent a weekend with old folks?> 2. Absolute Sannity
This is harder for me to want. Because I can't imagine that my future will be without its insane moments, whether through life's circumstance or things I bring upon myself. I hope I'll be able to let life happen without my worrying so much about it.
> 3. Growing
For me, I interpret this as spritual and intellectual growth. That I continue to explore my corner of the universe and marvel at its wonders.
> 4. Planning my mind.
Hmm. I am trying not to act without thinking, but I don't have a five-year-plan. Or a one-year-plan. Truly taking one day at a time, trite as it sounds. I suppose I have given myself a goal of the end of January, when I will have 6 months' sobriety, before I take more forward steps.
Matt, thanks for responding to our posts! You have provoked some real positive thoughts for me. Always valuable, and not frequent enough.
You're a peach.
