I am by no means an expert at dreams. But are you running from something in real life? And the family members in your dream, what do they mean in your real life? Is there something significant about them? Try to evaluate your relationship with the people you know and see where that takes you.

Well, I am not into the whole Freudian approach to dreams, there is some research demonstrating some reasons by "dreaming the way we do". Quite often, it is your subconscious which uses random imagery to represent various things in your life. (Note this quite different from Freud, who has static images to mean one thing.) In other interpretations, the images are more connected to your own, personal images.

Hope that makes sense.

Best,
Jay

Many times dreams are thought to be part of ourselves that are trying to communicate. I've heard it said that some aspect is represented by all of the characters in the dreams -- a one man show. If you are in therapy, stalking dreams, chasing dreams and falling dreams are thought to represent being out of control or getting close to something your subconscious has been keeping repressed. It is what you feel like you need to know or change -- but aren't sure you want to.

I like Irving Yalom for dreams. He has some great stories and they usually include the dream work of his clients. Freud is too literal for me.

How do the dreams end? Are you ever caught? Where are you running?

Real life sometimes makes us remember dreams: I have a reoccurring one about being stalked at my office by a motorcycle rider dressed all in black, with a black helmet, black shield, etc. In all the dreams, I wake up just as I'm about to find out who it is. (My Therapist thinks the rider is him.) Last week I got a call on my cell phone inquiring about the motorcycle I had for sale -- they had called the wrong number! Then,I had a therapy appointment and after I left the building and was waiting to cross the street, a black motorcycle with rider all in black went in front of me. It was creepy!! :)

I thought that Freuds's theory on dreams was that our dreams were our true desires, but things we couldn't have or were morally unacceptable. Or something like that...?

When I am under a lot of stress or anxiety, I have dreams where things are chasing me. One time it was a killer with a knife. He caught me and put the knife to my neck, and then I woke up, thankfully. It was probably the MOST scariest dream I have ever had. But in other dreams, I am being chased by random objects. For instance, one time several bottles of Coca Cola were chasing me. I know that sounds utterly ridiculous, but the dream was actually very colorful and vivid. The bottles kept changing colors. I was trying to run, but pretty soon I was paralyzed and couldn't make my legs go. It was scary. Are you under a lot of pressure or stress right now?
