said he's leaving if the rages dont stop

Posted by ensoul on July 2, 2002, at 20:14:38

i don't aim that at him...it happens once or maybe twice a week, no telling what will set it off, could be any little thing
i scream, throw things, pace, yell, punch the wall, bang head agnst the wall

this is new stuff, going on for abt 3 weeks now
no new meds, no new stressors...mind you I have lots of stressors but, that been going for over 2 yrs now

it's not unexpressed anger coming out, I never been one of those women who's had trouble expressing anger

Rick if a punch hole in the wall or something gets damaged I'm out of here

doubt he can legally do that since both are names are on the lease

but thats really not the point
I guess the point how long can someone live with a depressed person
He told me every time I leave he wonders if I'll "let myself" get in a car accident, every time I go for a walk by the river he wonders if I'll drown myself, wonders when the next over dose will be

i'm selfish...look what i've put him through

It's his choice to stay.
Rages usually don't come out of the sky..I don't hit a wall unless I'm very frustrated and have only done that rarely.
If you want to stay together, I'd recommend counseling, yesterday.

You're not selfish, just suffering. The rage is probably connected to something you are not aware of.
With proper counseling you can feel better.
Best wishes.

Lynn,

Maybe you can find another form of exercise?

My girlfriend used to have rages where she would rip up her whole apartment. She was able to get relief by starting therapy and studying KARATE!

I hope you're feeling better and can find a way to handle it soon --

Hi Lynn,

You're not selfish, you're ill. Let go that level of suffering, the one where we treat ourselves, most often, as badly as we were once treated.

Your post screams to me, mood disorder. Doesn't matter if it just started. See Daniel Amen's book for a more detailed description of rage attacks and the brain. . .the closest way we have right now to dx them is mood disorder/seizure/electrical glitch, and I have no doubt you'd find something like Lamictal or Zyprexa helpful.

Zyprexa, BTW, is something you can pop when an attack is coming on. It would be interesting--and diagnostic of whether this is purely psychological, which it seldom ever is. Might you get a hold of a few and try it? (I can't recommend, personally, being on it all the time, because I put on fifty pounds--now an admitted side-effect, tho Eli Lilly has a recommendation that works for some to lessen that effect. . .had to give it up, which was hard, it gave me a life for the first time in my life. . (found even better meds, for me.)

Good luck!
Zo

What difference do it make if the thing you scared of is real or not?
