Hello,
I am looking for a book about depression written by someone who has experienced it. I am aware of Patty Duke's experience, but she is bipolar. I am looking for an account of unipolar to help parents understand what depression feels like.Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Oh, yeah...
Andrew Solomon, "Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression"
Martha Manning, "Undercurrents : A Life Beneath the Surface"
Tracy Thompson, "The Beast : A Journey Through Depression"
Nell Casey (Editor), "Unholy Ghost : Writers on Depression"
William Styron, "Darkness Visible: a Memoir of Madness"
Cait Irwin, "Conquering the Beast Within : How I Fought Depression and Won ... and How You Can, Too" (written for teens)
And, yes this next one is about bipolar, but it is a good one....
Kay Redfield Jamison, "An Unquiet Mind : A Memoir of Moods and Madness"
And this one is more about a 60's era drug-induced psychosis, but it's interesting...
Mark Vonnegut, "The Eden Express: A Memoir of Insanity"

I definitely second "Undercurrents" by Martha Manning - and I think you might relate well, as Manning is a psychologist, and she discusses both sides.

My memory may not be accurate, but wasn't the novel "I Never Promised You A Rose Garden" written by a severely depressed teenage girl? (there's three different authors listed by Amazon for this title and i don't remember which female author is correct).
Also "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath
And "Sounds from the Bell Jar: 10 Psychotic Authors"Again, i may be faulty in my memories of these books. OR the conditions they write about may be more severe than just first level depression, i'm not sure... but they were all very important reading to me at the time. a bit of time ago...
(Escher gets out the granny glasses and walker)Hello gg, noa, and Penny!!
Mobius morphing -->better and better yet,

Hmmmm... i put DDquotes around each book title, and struggled to display all three of them with link to the amazon list. <-- would only allow me to click/target one single title in my above post.
I've been successful before (similar to noa's post), not sure why i wasn't able to do so this time. Suggestions?

I don't know what happened before, but it seems to work now. But to get the above to come up, I had to spell out "Ten"...
