What is the difference between niacin and niacinamide?

niacin can reduce LDL and boost HDL. Causes a flush, sometimes nausea (at first...).

niacinamide...also treats, prevents pellagra andother b3 deficiency states. no flush, no cholesterol changes. for me, more tolerable, up to about 6 grams/day.

Some people prefer niacin. I like niacinamide. Hoffer had some people on both, if they needed unusually high doses.

GABA comes to mind as does magnesium and Vitamin B6 combo. One I had success with was the herb kava kava, but only at lower dosages. Higher dosages can be stimulating, which you would want to avoid if you have anxiety. Also, if you already are taking prescription antidepressants, kava kava might not mix well with these. Caution. Some of the other B vitamins would help anxiety, but you'd have to try them and see what works.

I dont feel good taking more vitamins/minerals than WHO recommends.

It can have a negative impact on your health.

Thats what they are saying.

I've read about some of the studies indicating this. However, the effect was not that large. Correlation does not imply causation. What if a great percentage of people taking vitamins do so in order to compensate for what they believe are poor eating habits? They might die from the results of a chronically unhealthy diet rather than the ingestion of vitamins.

Just a thought...

Maybe zinc would have an anxiolytic effect for some people. I had a good response with zinc citrate. I also had a good response with magnesium and vitamin B6. Niacin is also good for anxiety, but there are different forms of this vitamin on the market. I guess you'd have to see which one works the best for you. Some say the Niacinamide form works the best, but I received good results with regular niacin sustained release. I guess it depends on which form your body can tolerate the best. Also, inositol is supposed to be good for anxiety, but I only took it for a short while so I don't have a lot of experience with that one. And you can try GABA. I can't guarantee it will help with anxiety, but it helps my mood and depression and sleep too. It won't help much for panic disorder or severe anxiety disorders. Those may require medication. The only herbs that seemed to do anything for my anxiety were kava kava and valerian, but they don't mix well with prescription psychotropics, so if you're on meds you might want to just stick with the vitamins and minerals. I'm hearing a lot of bad reviews about the quality of kava kava products on the market now and how ineffective they are in capsule or tablet forms. Many years ago, I tried a great brand of kava kava. Can't remember what it was, though, but it worked like a charm consistently. I think it may have been Natrol brand, but I don't know if they still sell it or if the quality is the same. Since then, kava products now vary in their quality because the market is flooded with them and I think a lot of them leave much to be desired. You can still get potent valerian herb, but for some people, valerian can make them too drowsy, so I don't know if that's a good option or not. I think Solaray makes an herbal blend for relaxation. I think it has five or six different herbs in it, and I tried it a few times. It actually helped me, so that's worth a try if they still make it. I would say, you might first try the vitamins and minerals (the safer stuff) before going to the herbs, especially if you take any type of antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications. There can be drug interactions with some herbs. So be safe and good luck. I hope this was of some help.
