L-Tyrosine + L-Tryptophan combo for anxiety

Posted by Agomelatinehope on November 1, 2012, at 8:44:56

Hi, I've just read "The mood cure" and the author recommends these two aminoacids for anxiety/depression treatment.

Any experience on this?

Thank you

I didn't have much luck with either of those, personally. Tyrosine made me very irritable. Phenylalanine, however, does not. I take 500mg everyday and it gives me a nice boost. I never had much luck with tryptophan either. It never seems to give me the wonderful sleep that it gives everyone else (it will relax me at first but then have me awake in the middle of the night) and I tend to get moodier when I've been taking it consistently. But that's just me. I have some ZenBev, which is a natural source of tryptophan that I take from time to time that seems to work better, but it still isn't something I'd do all of the time. What really works for me, in addition to the phenylalanine, is adaptagens such as rhodiola, holy basil, and eurethero. For some reason, they make me feel "up" without it being uncomfortable. They tend to smooth me out without making me feel out of it.

Dr. Priscilla Slagle from The Way Up from Down (she also has a website) uses Tyrosine and Tryptophan for depression. These two are very critical aminos if you are experiencing depression. Many people find benefit. Also, some people get better using Phenylalanine in place of Tyrosine. Check out the book, The Way Up From Down. It's a little dated in its material, but it has a lot of good ideas as well, like using B vitamins and multivitamins along with the aminos for a better response.

Phenylalaine provides a very noticable benefit but for me it only lasts for about an hour, with possibly some small lingering effect for an additional hour. I only tried it for few days though a week ago.

Does it build up in your system and provide more consistency? I read too many instances of where people say the effect didn't last for them. I don't think I would be consistent at all if I had to take it every 2 hours.
