For me personally, I would say yes....but a very meager yes. It sort of helps in the background, provides a platform on which other stuff can be built. I mean, for sure, if we don't have adequate minerals, all the other stuff we do is going to fall short. Minerals is like health 101. We could be deficient for a couple reasons.

One, many farmlands have been depleted from years of mass production without rotation cropping or replacing organic materials. That means even the meats we eat could be lacking in nutrients. Then the issue of trace pesticides, herbicides, and hormones. How do we know these don't impact the quality of the nutrients in some way? We don't.

Poor absorption. I personally think that is an issue with most of us, or anyone dealing with a chronic problem. It just comes with the territory, worsened by meds, and in some cases is the root cause all along. Example....gluten intolerance, which damages the cilia in intestinal linings....and only 1 in 10 people that are intolerant are diagnosed. That means a lot of people are screwing up their intestines and can't figure out why their health seems so unmanageable.

Even if I couldn't feel any benefit from a multi mineral I would probably take them anyway, in amounts that would not become toxic over time, just to know I am indeed getting them.

How would one diagnose gluten intolerance? I test negative for celiac disease. Instead of gluten intolerance, wouldn't it also be plausible to suggest that phytic acid, which interferes with zinc absoprtion, might cause some depressive and anxious symptomatology? Or that the absorption of tryptophan is negatively affected by other amino acids? If so, there might be other ways around "intolerance" such as destroying phytic acid prior to cooking and taking 5-HT. Just thinking....

Yes, you may see some benefit, but you can get all of that by taking a good multivitamin everyday. You get everything, not just the minerals. Better for your wallet as well.

YES, YES, YES! The one used in all the research articles on "micronutrients" is EMPowerPlus by Truehope (http://www.truehope.com/). It is not a "magic bullet" for everyone, of course, and even many of those it helps there often is other underlying issues such as gut issues, gluten sensitivity, dairy problem (see: http://itsnotmental.blogspot.com/2011/08/brain-health-cut-out-casein-doped-with.html) and and sometimes they need other supplements as well such as methylated B vitamins (you might want to read some of the books mentioned on those sites).

It's hard to find a good multi mineral that uses absorbable minerals. I take magnesium glycinate with B's and c. for some it's a miricle cure, I notice it has been a big help to me. I use to take swanson bone essentials and wonder if I should restart it, I'm looking for less bottles in my med cabinet that's why I stopped it

As far as "absorbable" multi-min goes i think this might be your best bet:

Very good brand of supps, generally speaking.

I suspect the bio-availability issue to be a bit overblown.. If i have the chance i take chelated mins anyway but it may just be that a higher dosage of oxides is just fine. (might be wrong)
