vervain--sedative...anxiolytic...(possibly)...

Posted by psychobot5000 on October 11, 2006, at 13:38:21

I have recently tried Blue Vervain in hopes of its helping with relaxation--it seems to be almost completely unresearched, but another babbler a while back recommended it.

I am uncertain about this experience, but so far I believe it to have had sedative effects. Made me relaxed and drowsy, though it didn't necessarily relieve and anxiety. Any other experiences? It occurs to me that it might be of use in insomnia--I seem to have slept well last night--after dosing in the evening--but this could be due to other reasons.

I found these studies regarding Vervain.

I don't see any conclusive evidence that it has much anxiolytic benefit.

...yeah. I was probably just crashing when I took it those few times, from poor sleep the night before. Oh well. I can't even find any information on my bottle about what the concentration of the vervain solution is. Homeopaths don't really believ in that type of dosing. ...I think I'm going to stay away from it in favor of better-known remedies.
