Hi.
Can anyone recommend a dosage schedule for taking inositol to treat bipolar depression? What other things must one take to get the most benefit?
Thanks.

I read an article awhile ago about using inositol for OCD and possibly other mental illnesses and it recommended taking 4g three times a day.
This may not be right for your illness though.

Thanks for replying.I did a quick search on Medline and discovered that inositol has been investigated as a treatment for depression in the dosage range of 12 - 18 grams.

Click on the following link. If it works, you'll get a listing of citations involving depressive disorders and inositol.

It is another one of the cell membrane stabilizing supplements?
Will taking phosphatidylinositol in the form of lecithin have the same effect or better?
Would it typically be more efficious to take a combination of omega-3 fatty acids, lecithin, and concentrated phosphatidylserine?

Apparently it reverses desensitization of serotonin receptors.
