I have read "The Omega-3 Connection" by Dr. Andrew Stoll. On page 209, he wrote, "Under no circumstances should you lower or discontinue your medication by yourself. In some cases, individuals, working closely with their clinicians, have been able to lower the dosage of their medications."

My interpretation of that statement is not "use only fish oil."

Is the "only" referring to use of fish oil above flaxseed? I am very much concerned about the depletion of our oceans---cod has just about disappeared from the North Seas. Fish everywhere is disappearing from our seas. Krill too in South Pacific and other areas, and krill feeds much marine life. SSo what does a concerned environmentally minded person do, when fish oil is required but cannot be taken for what amounts to as religious as I get reasons? I really hope somone will provide some support on this--you know, I have even written to several fish oil companies, politely and respectfully requesting information on their policies regarding restocking the deas and their fish farming methods, and no one has replied. I have written other forums regarding this and guess what--zero replies.

Maybe nobody knows anything, but surely this is a question worth asking???? I do very much want to take Omega 3 oils, maybe 6 too, for my bipolar, to help me keep lithium dose as low as possible. I look forward to hearing from someone. I am new here. Thanks.

I read while researching (sorry, didn't keep the link) of a two-year study comparing people taking fish oil with people eating fish two or three times a week. The fish-eaters got as much effect as the oil-takers.

I also read that farmed salmon had as much Omega-3 in it as other salmon if the fisheries were feeding the salmon other fish instead of grain. How much less Omega 3 is in the grain-fed fish was not available.

I also read, however, in the New York Times last month that the toxins in our waters are in our farm-fed fish. It's getting hard to beat the polluters. I think they've got us. The reporter went so far as to suggest we shouldn't eat farm-fed salmon more than once a month.

Interesting. There really is a Catch22 about it all.
