Buspar and painful leg cramps

Posted by Sac on November 11, 2014, at 5:47:20

I've been on Buspar for about 5 months. The highest dosage I could get to without daytime drowsiness was 15 mg. Currently, I'm only on 5mg at night. My pdoc recommended buspar to add to my lithium and prozac to help with lingering depression and concentration problems. The strange symptoms I've had since beginning buspar was that my period stopped for two months which leads me to believe it affects hormones, but which ones? The most troubling side effect I have is muscle pain and cramping in my legs. It usually wakes me up at night and during the day I have a stiffness in my legs like I have worked out too hard at the gym. Advice or experience anyone? I feel like dumping this medication. Thanks.

Buspar can cause musculoskeletal aches/pains.

Ask your doc about Riluzole for the lingeringg depression. It may help. Another one to try is Zonegran-it has some case studies demonstrating its effectiveness in treating bipolar depression.

Of course you could also add Abilify, Seroquel, Latuda or Geodon.

Thank you for your reply. I was not sure it was the buspar but I began experiencing stiff legs and muscle pain soon after starting the buspar so I became concerned. I will look into the alternatives you suggested and discuss this will my pdoc.
