recent med (DRI/DRA) trials....kinda long.

Posted by b2chica on August 15, 2013, at 16:42:52

update on recent med trials.

ok. some more failed attempts to notch in my bed post

while my anxiety grew to an unbelievable level right before i lost my job, i felt the anxiety also bringing about my depression as well. (of course adding to that my fear, frustration of no job)
and about one month or so before i left work my brand of generic Adderall was no longer to be found. i searched and searched. i started on the sandoz brand and like all the others, got BAD headaches, nasty nausea and of course did only little for energy (am mostly) and VERY little for attention, brain fog and Lots of anxiety.

ANYWAY, i decided to ask for dexedrine.
July 11, started dexedrine ER 15mg (Barr mfg). slept most of the dayliterally only up for about 6 hours off and on.
July 13, started taking 45mg dex in am. still nothing, mood terribly down, started with intrusive visuals of death.
July 16, got rx for Vyvanse 50mg. mood got little better but still NO energy. sleeping most of the day.
July 18, got rx for Vyvanse 70mg. first couple days thought was getting little better, could get out of bed but not much energy. Gradually depression came, suicidal thoughts, visions, wrote letters.
July 26th my depressive thoughts/visuals become too much. called pdoc. vyvanse making things worse. irritability, inward anger, sadness, intrusive thoughts/visualsetc.
July 30 met with nurse practitioner, got rx for Desoxyn, took one right away at 2:00. next day felt just slightly better but not much. Nurse Prac told me i could go up to 15mg. so
Aug 1 went to 10. little shaky but better.
Aug 2-6 went to 15, seemed to have still no energy and feeling down
Aug 7 had job interview, so switched back to Sandoz adder all for temp fix. i faked pretty good.
Aug 8 took sandoz again since i felt better yesterday but after afternoon dose i got REALLY bad headache and nausea.
Aug 10 upped pristiq to 150. seems to have helped mood. but by afternoon (2;00 or so) my mood is down and very tired, yet nervous.

after contacting CorePharma company, finding out they are NOT backordered anywhere, they are NOT (allegedly) discontinuing their drug. a liaison tried to help me but found NOONE in my state that got their drug. told me to use Express Scripts (online).
after trying to access their site, i found out they are basically an insurance company.ugh.
Then after i got new job i went to benefits office and talked with health ins. person about accessing this medication. the only solution she had was to try ordering from out of state pharmacy and have them mail me medication! UGH.
called BCBS and they said my doctor could order it and charge it as an 'in office administration of med'. but the nurse practitioner said she wasn't able to order the CorePharma from her online purchasing???

OK there IS an upside to all thistemporarily anyway.

There were 2 little mom & pop pharmacies in my town that i wasn't aware of (friend told me to try there). I called the one closer to my home.
he said he could (allegedly) order it, but wasn't for sure he would get it, but to call the next day to see.

i was SO hopeful i could barely breathe.
i called the next morning at 9:01 after they opened.

They acted like it was no big dealYES they had my CorePharma Adderall!
But as i have no insurance right now it came to $109.00
i had to put it on my credit card. but i dont care...inorder to go through some intensive training next week...i needed it. not to mention i cant handle the nausea and headaches anymore.
i could barely stay in my seat at my new job. could Hardly think about anything elsei KNOW i sound like some kind of drug addict. But they have NO idea what i'd just went through NOT having it!!
Right after work i went there to pick it up. They handed me the bottle and i opened it up to check. There were the round pink little beauties.
i just stood there for a minute. it must have seemed weird, he asked me gently if there was anything wrong or if he could help me with anything else.
I told him with tears in my eyes, that he had NO idea what i went through this last month. that No one in town could get this brand. that i went on three other medications to try, suffering horrible side effects. That I'm on this not just for attention but for mood also, and Nothing else work like this brand. I asked him if it was a fluke that he had this brand or could he get it again? he gently said "hold on a minute" went to the computer behind the counter and looked up the medication. he looked at me and said "No, its right here. I'll go ahead and place another order now so its here".
i just stared at him and said as Gratefully as i could."Thank You".
and left with med in hand.

Now i wanted wait till the weekend, as i have to get off pristq 150 go back down to 100mg and then switch from sandoz to my wonderful corepharma's.

So until my next med trial..

Hi b2chica,

Thanks for the update. I think it's great that you found a way to get the CorePharma Adderall that helps you so much. It's also really good to hear that you got the job that you had interviewed for. Am I correct in saying that it sounds like you're going to be getting health insurance, even though it doesn't sound like it's kicked in yet for you? If that's the case and you will be getting health insurance, then that's great. Now you'll have a job with health insurance (if I'm understanding things correctly), as well as access to a medication that seems to help you a lot. Just a few weeks ago, it wasn't certain that you were going to have any of these things, so I can only imagine how much more secure you must feel now that you have the new job and your CorePharma Adderall. Good luck with the training and also with switching back to your preferred version of Adderall.

thanks Tomatheus and Ph.
yes. i did get the job i was holding out for.
and to my surprise, from what i'm hearing he was as excited to get me as i was to get this job...a first for me!

anyway. my ins. kicks in sept 1st. which is wonderful. YES.
but my corepharma i dont know how long this pharmacy will be able to get it. if thy will always? or if its because their supplier had 'leftovers'?? which was the case with my old pharmacy.

i can only hope it can hold out for AT LEAST one year?? 6mo even. Until i can get settled in this new position.
i have SO much learning to do.
they have much of the research equipment i was used to before but one large piece that can be very dangerous if not used properly and will take months of training on hardware and software. and i just NEED to be top game during this time.

problem is the fall and winter tends to be a rough time for me emotionally. course, i could hop back on the zyprexa train. i'll be ok, but gain about another 40lbs... still haven't lost the 35 from last fall.

anyway. the job front is good so far. i do have 6mo probation in which they could potentially fire me for pretty much any reason.

I'm not sure as to when would be a good time to tell him about my MI....
i did talk to him about my 'ADD'....so at least if he saw me popping pills, i could explain that away a bit.
he didnt seem to have any problem with that.

but he does seem very sensitive to peoples personal issues. so i do think that i could tell him.
but now is certainly not the right time. I would like to tell him sometime this fall though.

anyway.
thanks.

Choosing when to disclose a mental illness to someone like an employer can indeed be difficult. I wish you luck in finding a time that is right for you.

Hi B2C,
(I'm back, burned bridges still bear weight)
Great to hear that you have a new job and with insurance! Woo Hoo! That is worthy of a happy dance right there! I have been hearing of companies cutting benefits all over the place. Good on you to find a decent employer.

As to your medicine adventures, I am so sorry for you. I'm lucky in that the only med I am on that is specific to brand is Wellbutrin ER. My pharmacy had no problem stocking it. All the other pills that rattle around inside me can stand to be generic. Oh yes, the migraine cure is a snappy $65 with the coupon.

No one can appreciate, I believe, the absolute torture that patients have to go through to getting a scrip properly filled.
Truly glad for you. I hope your mood finally gets to even out and you can concentrate.
