Since starting the mirtazapine, therehas been a small improvement in my anxiety (and i mean SMALL)
I took 15mg at night for 2 nights, then have been on 30mg at night for 2 weeks - in about 10 days I'll see the doctor again and go upto 45mg
I am still taking reboxetine 4mg bd, risperidone 1mg at bedtime and alprazolam 1mg tds
If the 45mg mirtazapine doesnt work a miracle, then i think its time for Nardil - not sure how my doc will react to that, he's youngish, and has probably never prescribed an MAOI

I'm sorry to hear that.

You could probably remain on reboxetine while taking Nardil. I'm sure you know that I have no great liking of reboxetine. You report that reboxetine is sufficient to treat your depression, so it is difficult to recommend its discontinuation. My main concern is that reboxetine might be contributing to your anxiety.Get well soon!

IME, the less a doctor is impressed by newer trends in psychiatry (DSM, the new drugs and stuff) and therefore the less optimistic they are, the more likely they are to Rx MAOIs.
I have never had any trouble getting doctors to consider it, but I have a sense of whom to ask.
It may not be just age related.

I'm still thinking of a switch from Xanax to clonazepam, but its only approved and marketed in Australia as an anticonvolsant, so it might take some convincing for my doc to prescribe it, where as Xanax is approved for anxiety and panic disorder, so he feels comfortable prescribing that

Jono interesting as back about 15 years ago docs felt very comfortable prescribing klonopin but uncomfortable with the other benzos? Phillipa

I think its just different practices in different countries - here, the main benzos are valium, xanax and temazepam for sleep, where as in the US I know Ativan and Klonopin are popular.
This is the end of the thread.
