Gadchik it's the prozac I tried it when knew and on day three was in pure panic and wasn't even consistently taking benzos at the time. P

Thanks, Phillipa! That's Lola. She's the best. She "gets" when I'm going through something and sits and comforts me. I had a seizure a few years ago while I was alone in my apartment, and Lola sat in the crook of my neck until help arrived. I really don't know what I'd do without her!

I can't even put into words what my cat means to me. She is the simple sanity in an often insane world.
People could take a lesson...eat, sleep, play, snuggle, get belly rubbed, yawn, potty break......eat, sleep, play, snuggle......

I have decided not to take the prozac next cycle,and it takes forever to leave your system. I am seeing my reg doc in december and will ask about very low dose birth control pills. Kat, I did take .75mg last night of k,its hard for me to take more.It helped though,Ive always been so concerned about taking a benzo daily.

I initially bought our cat for my son. I got her from a rescue group that was at Petsmart. Well she and I became pals,and when he left for college,she stayed home. I love to watch her clean her face,and her toes! And kneading when she gets ready to take a nap!

That is the cutest puppy! My dog reminds me of a cat,he's a toy manchester terrier. He takes naps with our cat and they play. She has never scratched him,but does hiss if he gets too rambunctious!

I think it's harder to put a cat on a diet than to put yourself on one. they wear you down with soulful eyes and with incredible miaowing fits til you're like OK, OK!!! and you give in

I really don't know what I'd do without her!animals are amazing. you know bryn, you had mentioned wanting to do healing work with animals...alot of hospitals have programs for therapy pets, dogs who get trained and then go around cheering patients up...bet Lola would be great at that!

I certainly understand your concern gadchik...but if you went *4 years* at 0.5mg you are probably one of the lucky ones who does not build up tolerance quickly. In fact, it's obvious you are, you lucky dog! I am glad that the 0.75 helped though. And giving up an ssri can be hell, but luckily prozac kinda auto-tapers itself. Good luck to you!

I wish more people would post pet pics! They always make me smile :). Cats, dogs, birds, pigs (yes, pigs--I'm dying to get a micro pig!), etc.; they're all amazing. I love animals and how they sense our feelings and know when we're sick.
I'd love to take Lola to local hospitals and have her serve as a Tx dog, but I don't think that's her calling--she can be skittish. But! I've been learning about different healing modalities with a life coach I work with, and I really like Reiki. Sounds crazy, but I'd like to explore either pet therapy with people using Reiki, or doing therapy/Reiki on sick animals. Of course there's an awful lot of training involved, and I don't have it in me at the moment. It's fun to think about, though.

I like to partake in canine therapy!
My dog is a rockstar at picking up on my moods and adapting himself to suit. If I am very depressed, he glues himself to my side and it is like "mindfulness mediation". When I am distressed, he insists on climbing on top of my chest and he will refuse to budge until I am calm again. He's only about 8lbs, but there is something about having his body weight pressed against my chest which is particularly calming and centering, even if I don't want him to do it at that time. I have since learnt that this is a skill that they teach to psychiatric and autism service dogs. He is a pound dog with no such training. Cool huh?!
The only problem is that when I am in a state of high anxiety he will not let anyone near me and will launch into a barking/lunging/snapping frenzy if they try. I guess he thinks I am in danger and that he needs to protect me. When I'm anxious I generally don't want anyone near me anyway, and I daresay he picks up on that too.

Yes! Mine does the same thing! It's so funny, too, because she looks so innocent and sweet, but sometimes she'll bark and snap (she's completely unaware of her pint-sized stature).
And Malcolm is such a cutie--love his soulful little eyes!

I think there may be a difference between dogs and most* cats. I am expected to cater to her moods and needs, not the other way around. So of course, being moderately well trained after all these years, I do. And in the end it's probably just as therapeutic in it's own way.
*I know there are some cats who are exceptions. I even had one many years ago who would come to me if I was crying. Or even if I was thinking of it it seemed. This one, sweet as she is? Not a chance.
