HypoThyroid, Anemia, or Depression?

Posted by FrustratedMama on February 29, 2012, at 12:25:00

Headed to pdoc in the Morning- Hoping to get some results- had LOTS of tests done to rule out "stuff" other than depression.....hoping to find an answer. ALL I want to do is sleep. If tests are "normal" what do I do?

I am so scared that my tests will be normal which means that I am "just depressed" - majorly depressed- cant work- lost enjoyment in life and laying in bed! What if this is all I have left?

do you see a pdoc? I would definately go in for a session.I would give you a pep talk, however,I cant will you to get up and get going.Sometimes,we need to lay and just let our brain settle. And if you have faith in your pdoc,he/she will guide you through.I do hope its just anemia or hypo.We all dread an episode, knowing its gonna be a "dark night of the soul".

Hi FM, just hang in there and try and stay calm. Be sure to have thyroid antibodies checked. You're under lots of stress. Keep us updated, o.k.?

Well my level was borderline and will be retested in a month (due to insurance reasons). They updated the prozac to 40 mg and the adderall to 20 mg so we will see what happens....I honestly think its thyroid but the range is so wide its hard to tell..they forget to test T3 this time too! Only one number...it was TSH reflex to free
T4 - .56 (normal range is .4-4.5 so I dont know what that means....HOWEVER, my total globulin levels were low and my A/G ratio was high....not even sure what those are!

From my past experiences don't expect a pdoc to know endocrinology. It's the most complicated specialty other than maybe neurology to me. I thought you had the testing done by an endo. Oh make sure the endo is good. Also they are hard to find. People are not entering this specialty. I'd definately google endos in your area and find a site the rates them. I goofed as wanted a shorter wait time so the guy I had heard wonderful things about was in the same practice as the one I see. But I saw this one and not allowed to change docs in the practice once you have seen one. The good think is I saw the two both consulting on me. I overheard the conversation waiting for some instructions from the staff. Good luck and let me know if I can help. I am babblemail friendly. Phillipa

Thank you Phillipa (nm) » Phillipa
