does any one take celexa for ocd i'm going to try either celexa or luvox ---celexa is regarded as a clean ssri wheras luvox is considered a dirty ssri---your thoughts??

I don't have OCD, but celexa did calm down some obsessive thoughts I had as a result of psychotic depression. I took it with Abilify, though, so it might be the combo, not so much just the celexa.

what made you decide on these 2?
Zoloft or Lexapro are geenraly regarded as the most effective of the SSRI's
You can give them some extra kick by adding a dose of nortriptyline (~75mg) at bedtime to either of them.

If you can get your doctor to convince your insurance company you need lexapro(escitalopram), I would go for it instead of celexa. Or, you can just go to online pharmacies like MagicPharma.com and get generic or brand Lexapro on the cheap. I told my psychiatrist about this and she admitted many of her patients are doing the same thing.
I would go with Lexapro first and give it a 3 month trial, going no higher than 20 mg(hopefully you do just fine at 10 after a few months).
Why not consider Prozac? Have you tried it already?

Jono, have you used notriptyline as an adjunct to Zoloft or Lexapro before?
I agree that Zoloft(sertraline) is a great SSRI, but Lexapro may give you a better chance of getting relief from OCD. All the SSRIs have potential to help with OCD.

11 years now and still taking luvox and can't get off and added 5mg of lexapro. Now what don't want serotonin syndrome? Celexa didn't help me at all. Phillipa

Be aware, though, that the dosages used to treat OCD are substantially higher than what is used to treat depression, and the time to response is generally longer.

Yes, I used Sertraline and nortyriptyline in conjunction for depression for quite a while, to good efect (one works on seretonin, the other no noradeenalin)
I eventualy changed to sertraline + reboxxetine, because while nortriptyleine and reboxetine are both NA reuptake inhibitors, reboxetine doesnt encourage weight gain.
I also read a study that shower an SSRI plus nortriptylein gave better releif in OCD than an SSRI alone.
Note that for ocd, you often need two to four times the usual antidepressant dose (40-80mg of citralopram, 100-200mg of sertraline)

I tend to agree. Luvox has a lot of unusual drug interactions. Also, you can get generic celexa for less than $4 a month.

i decided to try with 20 mg of celexa----my dr. thought it was a better choice as luvox has an interaction which can raise tegretol which i also take,,,that darn luvox has so many drug/drug interactions

I took Luvox for a short time period. Maybe a week. I think I had serotonin syndrome, because I rapidly switched from Paxil and they have interactions.

How high was your dose of paxil? When started taking luvox was new to USA and the docs liked it a lot. Phillipa

If the Paxil was working fine, why did you switch?
I think I went from 20mg Paxil to 100mg Luvox. Paxil virtually shuts down CYP2D6, and Luvox is metabolized by 2D6. I was also taking Remeron and Wellbutrin.
