Starting nicotine replacement therapy today...

Posted by zonked on June 19, 2011, at 7:49:48

I did some quick math and, with a 30% off everything-in-the-store CVS coupon I got in my e-mail, nicotine patches are going to be cheaper than smoking anyway.

My insurance will pay for nicotine patches thereafter beginning July 1.

Wish me luck.

Oooh, a little irritable.

It'll pass.

If I'm not mistaken it's easier to stop smoking while on a drug which inhibits MAO-B (like my beloved Nardil) because tobacco smoke contains not only nicotine, but also a natural MAO-B inhibitor.

Nevertheless, even with the patch, I am still craving ciggies. The first few days are the worst - I'm tempted but I will succeed!!!

Hang in there buddy! Ill do a similar thing soon called "e-cigarette". Id say yes its easier to stop when youre feeling well so go for it!

On the other hand its also easy to get slavishly addicted to nicotine while on phenelzine. So what your doing is a very good idea! I cross my fingers

huh, i have thought it would be better to start nicotine replacement/antagonists a week or so before cigarette cessation, so you start to think of the act of smoking cigarettes without the reward of the nicotine.

At least for replacement thats a bad idea because youll end up jumping up the walls with too much nicotine!
You wanna reduce tolerance not increase.

My ex-smoking friends say this is a big monster to kick. But very doable.

How's it going?

*blush*. Oops! Have postponed for now.. too much going on. There is the temptation when remission begins to "fix" everything that's wrong in your life (everything depression allowed you to ignore) as quickly as possible. Too much going on.

This sounds like an excuse, and it is; but it's something I have done before and will do again when ready. Guess I wasn't ready. =)

I'll post again when I make another quit attempt.

Thanks you guys!

Truthfully, zonked, my understanding of quitting smoking is that it is very tough. One friend had to find a 'life window' because it's can be that difficult. Which took her years :-/ but that's what it took to accomplished sanely. She also deals with med issues, so that is paramount imo. Lungs regenerate relatively quickly. You've got time.

I support you taking the long view in this. So no judgments from me.

Ooh man i kind of expected it.. next time promise?
i am looking forward to when my e cigarette comes in. Its only 1/3 of the cost of cigarettes, too.
The saved money could be invested in a gym membership.

Its still nicotine and nasty nerve poison but my lungs wont be f*ck*d anymore, thus exercise will be more enjoyable.

Im really trying to get the exercise thing going now.. sh*tty weight gain!
I think with the nardil weight gain there is no other way but to really sack up exercise wise.
