Seriously what happens if you just stop all benzos after 41 years and ad after 11 years. Nothing bad right? Don't see why I take them. Phillipa

Phillipa, you need someone to be the nurse for you. No one would sign off on that.
You're known for you fast med changes, but that was a while ago.
O.K. You've been wanting to dump luxox for awhile. Try it by taper.
Why no benzos? How will you cope with your very real anxiety?
Remember me and pristiq: the moral being that while I absolutely do not regret giving it up, it was doing something, albeit not enough and the sides!
As we age, our bodies are less apt to respond to sudden stops in a friendly even healthy manner.
Be careful. What's going on?

philipa, you know what could happen. cold turkey the benzo's and you could get rebound anxiety. That's a terrible thing to go through, however I think it is a good idea to take a drug holliday now and then to see if treatment is still indicated. Maybe you will have no ill effect from stopping, then that would mean the pills aren't really doing anything.
I stop AD's cold turkey after long term use and if nothing happens that means they pooped out and I'm stable, many times I was able to get off AD's for months even years. other times it was terrible and I said, yup there working and I still need them.
I'm in no way advising anyone to do this but it has worked for me. I'm one of those people who meds poop out after 6-9 months sometimes they poop out and I don't relaps right away so the holiday keeps me intouch with how effective my AD's are.

OMG do not do this. Benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome would definitely happen (especially after 4 decades!)

If you were to do this, you might have the worst anxiety of your life and could have a deadly seizure. A friend of mine, a good one, had a grand mal seizure attempting to stop Xanax abruptly after taking it for years.

After 41 years, you're gonna need to taper down, reduce the dose by 25% per week for 4 weeks.
Dont just stop "cold turkey" or you could have a very nasty withdrawl, includung grand mal seisures and the DT's

Four years into benzo treatment and also was given benzos during pregancy both the pdoc and ob-gyn said okay. During false labor even given two seconals for sleep didn't sleep. I decided after giving birth to stop the benzos as had stopped miltown coldturkey and didn't notice a thing.This was before this pregancy. When telling the doc he was shocked I'd noticed nothing felt fine. Didn't see him often. After prenancy and birth baby in hospital for two weeks decided to go off the valium and alchohol beer and cold turkeyed. Only thing that happened felt like on a ship. Lay on couch for two weeks. They reinstated 5mg of valium and it worked fine. Baby home. Anyway yes was young then but so far I've reduced the nonworking xanax to 1/3 of a lmg pill at night or sometimes a 1/4 and no difference in sleep. Still the l0mg of valium. So not as worried about them as this idiotic luvox can you believe 50mg the starting dose is the worst. This is what can't get off. They don't work anyway. Will think it over. Give up benzos by all means, but taper, dont just stop.
Reducung by 25% per week over 4 weeks is safe, no risk of a fit etc - whats the rush, why take even a small risk?

At a third of lmg xanax now and no problems with the l0mg of valium it's fine. Keeping luvox same for now. That med is too hard to come off of. Phillipa

I know it sounds ridiculous but not the doc my body. When I went off it and benzos raised high I didn't sleep for two weeks ended in ER. The ER doc called the psych docs downtown. He came back to me and said don't know why but after my conversation went back on and finally slept with less benzos. So strange? I have no idea why? Phillipa

wow thats really strange---just curious phillipa are you able to hold employment with your condition .....or are you limited to what you can do because of your gad --kindly
