philipa, you know what could happen. cold turkey the benzo's and you could get rebound anxiety. That's a terrible thing to go through, however I think it is a good idea to take a drug holliday now and then to see if treatment is still indicated. Maybe you will have no ill effect from stopping, then that would mean the pills aren't really doing anything.
I stop AD's cold turkey after long term use and if nothing happens that means they pooped out and I'm stable, many times I was able to get off AD's for months even years. other times it was terrible and I said, yup there working and I still need them.
I'm in no way advising anyone to do this but it has worked for me. I'm one of those people who meds poop out after 6-9 months sometimes they poop out and I don't relaps right away so the holiday keeps me intouch with how effective my AD's are.
