Used a lot for people who have to give speeches and have a lot of anxiety. I worked with residents who took it before making a presentation. Don't think it lasts a long time. Phillipa

I was prescribed Propranolol a few years back for GAD and panic disorder. I found it mostly ineffective and didn't stop on it long. It just really did nothing for me. I don't think there's any problem stopping the drug and you can't build a tolerance to it as far as I'm aware. The side effects were fairly benign if I think right. I think it just made my hands and feet a little cold but nothing major.

I wish you luck with it.

Its great if you have angina or migraine, if you suffer anxiety, its more or less a placebo.

If you take it for a while, you need to taper it down over a week or two, not suddenly stop it cold

Shrinks seem to think propranolol is good for anxiety. Shrinks are generally wrong on this one.

Propranolol is great for stage fright and it can also be used with neuroleptics to deal with side-effects such as tremor and akathisia. Other than that, I haven't personally found it to be very helpful in dealing with anxiety.

Really, CE? You've tried this?

I guess it is safe enough to try. Maybe it will help. Could it depend on what is generating the anxiety? That doesn't read right. I mean more like depending on the physical conditions that might be creating anxiety symptoms.

Poser, good luck. Post back.

Yeah, I tried propranolol for anxiety and Abilify-induced tremors. The propranolol did nothing for the anxiety, but the tremor did stop.
