im considering it because, well, i used to be a normal happy person.. but i was just a big baby and did not know how good my life reall was. so then i started going to a psychiatrist and starting taking meds. the meds ruined me. one after another. they showed me what depression really is. and my brain doesnt return back to normal after stopping a med.
I've read that ECT can kinnd of "reboot" the brain. and maybe it could set it back to normal.. like how it was before i ever took a single antidepressant.

If you feel that meds did this I'd really research ECT not a lot of positive as been written in the past that I remember. Good luck. Phillipa

Really, such touching faith.
Can you not turn back, even now?
If the meds were a mistake, might this not be one too?

Exploring all the options out there is good research. I think ect is considered very invasive and the results are completely unpredictable.

Personally, I've looked at rTMS as an option. Some here have found it very helpful. Google, let's see. Darn memory. Name begins with an S. Anyone remember who posted last year about how rTMS helped?

However, a university doctor told me that it really can't be expected to completely reboot. Results vary, though he was very optimistic.

I wouldn't recommend ECT unless you find yourself absolutely unable to function. The potential side effects are severe, the treatment itself is costly, and if does "reboot" the brain, its probably a short-term benefit (when used in depression, relapse rates are high; that's why many people are maintained on multiple psychiatric medications after ECT).

I would also not advise ECT. The short term effects can be beneficial, but most people fully relapse in 6 months or so. There is some evidence that it can damage the brain too.

Yeah I've done ECT.

It did not work and left me with significant total disappearance of many memories.

Even with good insurance it is a lot of money out of pocket.

ECT was the worst thing I've ever done for my brain. Not that I had any choise in the matter. As I was in hospital. Compleatly reset my mind. I woke up after one of them and didn't know anything. I realy, thought that I had just been born, till I looked at my legs and how long they were. I've been trying to get pices of memorey back over the last 14 years. I'm getting there!

Sorry, fb, but it wasn't me. I have a sketchy understanding of rTMS, but no experience with it.
